Alpha Introduces New SP+ Planetary Gearhead Family

Elk Grove Village, IL - alpha gear drives, Inc. has introduced a successor to their highly successful SP planetary gearhead series - the SP+, with improvements in every aspect of performance and service life. Seven sizes of SP+ gearheads will be rolled out in 2004, replacing the corresponding SP series. Users will easily update to the new gearheads, as the mounting dimensions are identical between the two series.

The new SP+ series features low noise levels - to 64 dB(A), four times quieter than standard gearheads. They offer up to 20% higher torque capacity, with 17-750 Nm nominal and 40-1100 Nm acceleration torques. New output bearing design gives the SP+ longer bearing lifetime and up to 25% improved torsional rigidity, for higher axial and radial loading capacities than any gearhead in its class.

SP+ is available with a standard backlash of less than or equal to 4 to less than or equal to 6 arcminutes with optional backlash down to less than or equal to 1 arcminute for highest positioning accuracy. It offers new proprietary shaft seals for IP 65/66 protection -- highest in the industry.

The new SP+ series is available in gear ratios from 3:1 to 100:1, including new binary gear ratios. The gearheads feature one-step quick and easy mounting to a servomotor.

The SP+ High-Speed version is designed to run up to 4500 rpm in continuous operation, compared to standard gearheads that are generally rated at 3000 rpm, and then only for cyclic duty. Its highly efficient dry-lubricated design allows the SP+ High Speed to produce half the heat and offer three times the service life (30,000 hours) of competitive designs. Mounted to continuous duty servomotors, it operates as a heat sink, helping to cool the servomotor, thereby extending the life of the system.

All SP+ gearheads are 100% factory tested and are lubricated for life.
