PIV Laser Systems withstand day-to-day abuse.

Press Release Summary:

Suited for liquid- and air-based Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) experiments, Solo 120XT and 200XT employ one laser head and one power supply. Dual-laser, flashlamp-pumped, Nd:YAG laser systems have resonator frame machined from single aluminum block and have individual machine covers for IR and harmonic sections of laser. Solo 120XT has 120 mJ output, while Solo 200XT provides up to 200 mJ. Each delivers stable green light at 532, 355, or 266 nm.

New Wave Research Unveils Two Ruggedized PIV Laser Systems

Ultra-compact systems are built tough for the rigors of everyday use

Fremont, Calif., May 3, 2005 - New Wave Research announces two additions to its Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) laser-system family - the Solo 120XT and Solo 200XT. Exceptional ruggedness and compactness are the hallmarks of these dual-laser, flashlamp-pumped, Nd:YAG laser systems. With just a single laser head and single power supply, the Solo 120XT provides up to 120-mJ output, while the Solo 200XT provides up to 200-mJ output. Each delivers ultra-stable green light at 532 nm, 355 nm or 266 nm, and is ideal for a complete range of liquid- and air-based PIV experiments.

"The Solo 120XT and Solo 200XT are built tough to withstand the rigors of day-to-day use," said Ed North, director of product marketing of New Wave Research. "The resonator frame is machined from a single aluminum block into something we call an I-Beam design. Looking from the top down, there are two cavities - one for each oscillator. And looking from the side, there's a separate single base-level cavity that routes cooling water to the pump chambers." Robustness is further assured with locking screws on all mirror adjustments and individual machine covers for the IR and harmonic sections of the laser.

In addition, both the Solo 120XT and Solo 200XT feature revised optical designs for more uniform beam quality. Moreover, each system can easily be upgraded for optional UV performance. It should also be noted that the Solo 200XT, with its single laser head and power supply, is now the most compact 200-mJ PIV laser on the market - competing systems utilize larger laser heads and usually two power supplies.
