Original Press Release:

Enhancements Extend Capabilities of ROVVER® Pipeline Inspection Crawler

Randolph, New Jersey-March 1, 2006-As part of its commitment to ongoing product innovation, Envirosight has announced three enhancements to its ROVVER line of modular, steerable inspection crawlers:
o A new zooming pan/tilt camera head with optional laser measurement.
o A new handheld pendant for fingertip control of more crawler functions.
o A new wide wheel set for improved traction in sediment.

The enhancements are available immediately on new ROVVER systems, and as retrofits for existing systems.

The zooming pan/tilt camera head combines 10X optical zoom and 4X digital zoom to extend inspection range and improve resolving power. As with existing ROVVER axial and pan/tilt camera heads, the new zooming pan/tilt camera head illuminates targets with bright, shadow-less illumination; captures crisp color video; and installs in seconds with the ROVVER T-bar tool. For maximum uptime, stainless steel side arms and tilt axis journals lend extra ruggedness and wear resistance, while an internal pressure sensor helps maintain the positive pressure necessary to prevent water ingress.

The zooming pan/tilt camera head can also project two laser dots 1.575" (40mm) apart onto targets in the camera's field of view, providing a measurement reference to help size defects and debris. The new zoom head fits all ROVVER crawler chasses, and must be used with the new pendant.

With its intuitive, graphical layout, the new handheld pendant grants fingertip control of numerous crawler and camera functions, including zoom and laser on the new zooming pan/tilt camera head. Machined from aluminum, this lightweight, splash-proof pendant measures just 6" wide, 4" long and 2.4" deep.

It offers remote control of:
o Camera tilt up/down, camera tilt left/right and crawler steering and direction via two joysticks.
o Camera lamp intensity, auxiliary lamp intensity and crawls speed via dial potentiometers.
o Focus/auto-focus, exposure/auto-shutter, zoom in/out, camera home, laser on/off, clutch engage/disengage (ROVVER 225 only), camera raise/lower (ROVVER 225 only) and BackEye camera activation (an accessory to be announced in summer 2006) via membrane pushbuttons.

The new design serves as a fully compatible, drop-in replacement for older-style pendants, and docks in the same manner with the ROVVER portable controller.

Designed for improved traction in sediment and debris, the new wide wheel set installs in seconds on ROVVER 125 and 225 crawler chasses. These wheels replace earlier tandem wheel sets, offering a wider gripping surface and simplifying post-inspection cleaning. The set includes 4 wheels for installation on the crawler's fore and aft axles, with small wheels remaining on the center axle.

"ROVVER users expect innovation, and these new enhancements deliver a combination of features that are totally unique in our market," said Richard Lindner, president of Envirosight. "No other crawler offers a zooming pan/tilt with laser distance reference, let alone for 4" lines. We've delivered all of these features, along with a new pendant to maximize ease of use."

Trusted for more than 15 years, ROVVER crawler systems boast a modular design that allows quick reconfiguration for any combination of pipe size, material and condition. The steerability and a short wheelbase allow ROVVER crawlers to navigate past debris and obstructions, climb offsets, and pass through inverts and curved access points. Three chassis sizes allow inspection of pipelines 4" to 60" diameter. The ROVVER line also offers a fully automatic cable reel, which uses a precision tension sensor to reduce the pulling burden on the crawler (thus extending inspection range), as well as to prevent cable tangles during backward crawl. Compact in size and drawing less power, ROVVER systems are also more portable and require substantially less operational overhead.
