Pipe Elbow conditions flow, cut caviation.

Press Release Summary:

Elbow Process Conditioner makes 90° turn to isolate flow disturbances, reduce swirl, and develop highly symmetrical, repeatable flow profile with minimal pressure loss at inlet to process equipment. It replaces last pipe elbow upstream of pump or valve. Elbow has anti-swirl and inclined vortex generating profile correction tabs. They project from inside pipe surface to generate vortices that accelerate and amplify natural pipe effects.

New VOREL 90° Elbow Process Conditioners Increase Pump and Valve Life and Reduce Maintenance Costs

Eliminates Swirl and Asymmetrical Flow Profiles and Reduces Cavitation at Pump and Valve Inlets

San Marcos, CA June 28, 2002 Process engineers experiencing problems with short runs of piping that cause cavitation and premature failure of pumps and valves will find the new VOREL 90° Elbow Flow Conditioner isolates flow disturbances, reduces swirl and develops a highly symmetrical, repeatable flow profile with minimal pressure loss at the inlet to their process equipment.

In today's compact plant designs, pumps and valves are required to operate with inadequate straight runs of pipe upstream of process equipment mounting locations. This results in swirl, cavitation and skewed flow profiles prematurely wearing impellors and trim. This insidious damage results in costly down time of critical process equipment and soaring maintenance costs. The VOREL is the simple, cost effective solution to these unplanned expenses. It replaces the last pipe elbow upstream of the pump or valve to create a smooth, symmetrical flow pattern at the inlet. This will extend life and significantly reduce maintenance costs throughout the plant.

VOREL was developed using the same tab-type flow conditioning technology as the straight run VORTAB Flow Conditioners, which have been laboratory proven and successfully installed in hundreds of plants worldwide. To validate the new VOREL design - ball valves, gate valves, out of plane and in plane elbows and swirl generators were installed at the immediate inlet of the VOREL and tested in state-of-the-art gas, air and liquid calibration facilities. VOREL isolated flow irregularities and conditioned the flow stream into a uniform symmetrical velocity profile in all instances. Swirl reduction and velocity profile correction occur naturally in long lengths of straight pipe due to diffusion and turbulent mixing. VOREL's anti-swirl and inclined vortex generating profile correction tabs, projecting from the inside pipe surface, generate vortices that accelerate and amplify these natural pipe effects to create a uniform, non swirling, symmetrical flow profile in a much shorter section of pipe.

The simple, flexible designs of the new VOREL elbow and VORTAB Insert Sleeve, Short Run, Meter Run and Field Kit configurations provide a cost effective solution to compressed installations for pumps, valves and other process equipment. VOREL and VORTAB provide the most effective flow disturbance isolation, lowest pressure drops and least affect by fouling of any of the flow and process conditioner technologies on the market today.

VOREL and VORTAB process conditioners can be made from carbon steel, 316 stainless steel or Hastelloy C-276. A variety of process connections are also available--ANSI flanges, male NPT threads, butt welded preps or retaining wafers. Delivery time for the VOREL process conditioner is available in less than four weeks, depending on size. Custom configurations are also available from the factory with lead times of 6 weeks or less.

The VORTAB Company is a global supplier committed to meeting the needs of its customers through innovative solutions to the most challenging requirements for optimizing the performance of process equipment in gases or liquids.
