Original Press Release:

Portwell Launches New Dual Intel Xeon Processor E5 v3 Family-based PICMG 1.3 System Host Board (SHB)

FREMONT, CALIF. – American Portwell Technology, Inc., (http://www.portwell.com) a wholly owned subsidiary of Portwell, Inc., a world-leading innovator in the Industrial PC (IPC) market and an Associate member of the Intel® Internet of Things (IoT) Solutions Alliance, launches its new ROBO-8122VG2R SHB.

ROBO-8122VG2R PICMG 1.3 SHB offers scalable performance with the latest Intel Xeon processor E5-2600 v3 product family and can support as many as two processors. Its features include the ability to deliver up to 256GB DDR4 ECC registered memory. It adopts ASPEED AST1400 graphic engine offering solid 2D performance through a VGA port. The SHB also supports a flexible PCIe configuration on the backplane that provides up to a total of 36 lanes. Applications for the new ROBO-8122VG2R include medical imaging systems, industrial automation and control systems, digital security surveillance and broadcasting systems.

A Powerful Data Center

Portwell’s new ROBO-8122VG2R SHB can help the industry achieve greater levels of performance, efficiency, security and scalability. The new generation of Intel Xeon processor E5-2600 v3 family enables a powerful data center by supporting a software-defined infrastructure, commonly known as an SDI, to address the need for greater flexibility. With support for as much as 256GB DDR4 ECC registered memory, ROBO-8122VG2R SHB can support multiple data-hungry virtual machines, assuring computer reliability and benefitting the data-swapping process. In addition, the incorporation of up to 36 PCIe lanes with support for PCIe 3.0 specification significantly improves peer-to-peer bandwidth.

50 Percent More Cores

Another substantial benefit of the new ROBO-8122VG2R SHB configuration is that the Intel Xeon processor E5-2600 v3 product family adds 50 percent more cores and last-level cache (LLC) as well as next generation DDR4 memory support over the previous generation and includes numerous other hardware enhancements such as an Intel QuickPath Interconnect (QPI) link. These innovations deliver up 2.2 times the performance over the previous generation, which substantially boosts output across a broad set of workloads.

Energy Savings and Large Scale Server Deployments

The support for DDR4 server memory is just the beginning of a host of new features and benefits coming down the pike from the Portwell’s family of SHBs. While still built on quad-channel architecture, these new memory modules feature an increased stock frequency of up to 2133MHz and a lower voltage of 1.2V per module. Taken together, these two main improvements can not only deliver a large bandwidth performance to boost memory intensive applications, but also harvest considerable energy savings to large scale server deployments.

Graphics Enhancement and Long Product Life Cycle

American Portwell customers will benefit because the Intel Xeon E5 v3 platform on which Portwell based the ROBO-8122VG2R SHB provides computing and graphics performance enhancement, twice the memory capacity of DDR3 and additional high-speed I/Os, which are important for space and power constrained embedded applications.

Not only that, but our customers also benefit from the peace of mind they get from the long life cycle support inherent with every Portwell product.
