Vienna University of Technology Upgrades Gleeble® to Series 3 Control System

POESTENKILL, N.Y. (July 8) - The Vienna University of Technology (Technische Universitaet Wien) has increased the capabilities of its Gleeble 1500 thermal-mechanical simulation system with a Series 3 digital control system update.

The Series 3 Digital Control Update Package features the same closed-loop digital control system with high-speed Pentium computing power and Windows-based software that is standard equipment on the Gleeble 3500 and 3800 systems.

The Series 3 digital control system upgrade will help research at Technische Unversistaet Wien through:

· Improved accuracy of control and data acquisition - the Series 3 control offers 16-bit resolution vs. 12-bit resolution on the older system.

· More rapid test programming - the all Windows-based software of the Series 3 is easier to use, faster to program and less prone to error.

· Easier output and plotting- the Series 3 upgrade includes Microcal Origin Data Plotting Software.

· Instantaneous test progress readouts - the Series 3 control system keeps operators continuously updated via Virtual Panel Meters.

All currently manufactured Gleeble physical simulation systems feature the DSI Series 3 Digital Control and incorporate closed-loop thermal and mechanical systems. Windows-based computer software, combined with an array of powerful processors, provides an extremely user-friendly interface to prepare physical simulation programs, to provide digital closed-loop control of the thermal and mechanical systems, and to collect data.

Gleeble systems are used for process simulation, materials characterization, and basic research in technical institutes, industrial laboratories, and universities throughout the world.

Founded over 45 years ago, DSI has pioneered the development and manufacture of dynamic thermal/mechanical systems for materials research, including the Gleeble 3800, Gleeble 3500, Gleeble 2000, Gleeble 1500, and the Gleeble HAZ 1000.
