Balluff's New S50 Photoelectric Sensor Series Packs High Performance Flexibility Into One Basic Housing Configuration

FLORENCE, KY (April 18. 2003) - Balluff's S50 photoelectric sensor family packs a comprehensive range of sensing and mounting choices into one global standard 18 mm configuration. The economically priced Balluff S50 series is an ideal solution for companies seeking to realize the benefits of comprehensive supplier reduction - sensor standardization to lower supply chain costs, plus decreased start up installation complexity, maintenance costs, and production downtime.

Incorporating more than 15 types of sensors, the Balluff S50 family can replace a wide range of different sensing modes, each with its own mounting requirements. With a straight or integrated right-angle sensing face integrated into a series of unique housings, the S50 family, depending on the model, is designed to be used as an 18 mm tubular sensor or as a block type sensor that can be screw mounted as well. The right angle versions allow for unequalled mounting installation flexibility compared to the typical block style or tubular sensor. Balluff's advanced tubular design allows S50 right angle sensors to be quickly screw mounted in any installation that accommodates a straight angle design.

"The standardization built into the S50 line offers OEM designers and production line management a way to quickly specify whatever photoelectric performance they need without having to worry about different mounting requirements," says Balluff Photoelectric Product Manager, Thurston Horton. "Each S50 can be screw mounted or block mounted exactly the same way. This efficiency will be felt on the production line and in the parts crib as well."

Balluff's S50 family is one of the broadest sensor lines available anywhere. Standard models feature an easy to use potentiometer and include polarized retroreflective, thru-beam, diffuse proximity, and transparent polarized retroreflective versions.

Advanced pushbutton models include a patented EASYtouch(TM) system that allows users to quickly set the object detection threshold. These models include background suppression, foreground/background suppression, luminescence, and contrast.

Safe class I laser and visible red laser emission is available in all the basic optic functions. such as thru-beam, polarized retroreflective, and diffuse proximity. Laser S50 models feature high spot visibility and concentration, allowing quick and easy alignment of sensors and the object-to-detect at improved detection resolution over competitive models.
