Photoelectric Sensor features sub-miniature components.

Press Release Summary:

Series W 2 sub-miniature sensor provides metal-reinforced mounting holes, protection rating of IP 67, optical ASICs, and accurate placement of transmitter and receiver elements. Pinpoint LED with laser-like light spot allows detection of very small parts. Interference caused by moving or reflective objects in background can be suppressed in ranges of 0.6 and 1.2 in. Objects are reliably detected regardless of surface colors.

Super Small and Super Strong, SICK's New W 2 Series

Lack of space is no longer a problem when it comes to integrating photoelectric sensors into machines. The new W 2 sub-miniature series delivers the solution. Its laser-like light source, precise optics and unique extrusion housings meet virtually all automation requirements.

SICK, as a sensor supplier, has taken a completely new path by using extrusion technology for sub-miniature components. Housings manufactured in this manner are no larger than the end of a cable - but users can still benefit from their great durability and high performance. This is provided by metal-reinforced mounting holes, a protection rating of IP 67, the specially developed optical ASICs, highly accurate placement of transmitter and receiver elements, and the pinpoint LED, whose precise laser-like light spot allows detection of very small parts.

The W 2 is the first sub-miniature sensor with precise background suppression for ranges of 0.6 and 1.2 in (15 and 30 mm). This means that interference caused by moving or reflective
objects in the background can be largely suppressed. Furthermore, objects are reliably detected regardless of their surface colors - such as a black IC in front of a metallic background. The W 2 series also consists of a through beam photoelectric switch with a range of 39.4 in (1000 mm), reflex systems for detection distances of up to 31.5 in (800 mm) and energetic sensors with a 2 in (50 mm) range.

All W 2 sensors are perfectly suited for precise detection tasks and set new standards in many applications. Typical applications include tight, compact areas such as those found in placement, pharmaceutical and handling machines. The laser-like light spot allows detection of the smallest parts on transport systems, in belt compartments and robot arms.
