Elekon Announces Highly Sensitive Photodiode Arrays For X-Ray And Scanning Applications

Torrance, CA, December 18, 2001...Increased scrutiny of baggage at airports requires a better way of scanning bags for illegal items. That requirement means that better baggage scanners will be needed. Elekon introduces the EPA-4400 series of highly sensitive photodiode arrays, which are used to detect the X-rays in baggage scanners. The EPA-4400 series is a family of 8, 16 and 32 element photodiode scintillator arrays that are suitable for a wide range of X-ray and scanning applications, such as spectroscopy, general medical, security systems and baggage scanners.

Features of the EPA-4400 include high sensitivity (400-1080 ë), uniform response of 0.30 A/W (when ë=540 nm), element size of 1.49 x 3.61 mm and an element spacing of 1.587 mm. Extended element lengths are available upon request.

"The American public needs the confidence that airports are secure and that they will not be threatened by dangerous items," states Thomas Dietiker, president of Elekon. "Once the security of airports is increased, we will have that confidence. Elekon's photodiode arrays will help with that effort."

All versions of the EPA series are available now and pricing starts at $7.15 (US) each in quantities of 1000. All of Elekon's products are available through its network of distributors, value-added resellers and system integrators in Asia, the United States and Europe.
