Original Press Release:

Appleton PCD2 Series Is World's First NEMA 4X Rated Hazardous Location Photocell

ROSEMONT, IL, August 5, 2004 - Targeting offshore oilrigs, refineries and other industrial operations subject to extreme conditions, Appleton has introduced the new PCD2 Series, the world's first hazardous location photocontrol to carry the NEMA 4X rating for protection against corrosion, windblown dust and rain, splashing water, hose-directed water, and external icing. When installed in the Appleton Mercmaster III, Mercmaster III-Low Profile and Mercmaster III-400 Series the PCD2 Series maintains those lighting fixtures' hazardous location rating. Designed to offer dusk-to-dawn control of lighting fixtures, the PCD2 Series automatically turns fixtures "on" at 3 footcandle brightness, and "off" at 8 footcandles. To avoid nuisance tripping, it has a minimum time delay of 15 seconds. Capable of fitting through standard 1/2-inch knockouts, the PCD2 Series is available for use with 120, 208, 240 and 277 volts, 35-400 watt HID, incandescent or fluorescent, 50/60 Hz fixtures. The Appleton PCD2 Series is UL listed for applications specified by the National Electrical Code as being hazardous because of the presence of explosive fluids, gases or dust (Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C, D). These applications include petrochemical and chemical plants, paint factories and wastewater treatment centers. The PCD2 Series is factory sealed so it eliminates the need for an explosion-proof enclosure. It can be factory installed, field installed or factory installed in an FS cover for use in a FS/FD box for remote applications. For more information, call 800-621-1506.
