Petro-Canada Advances Performance of its Purity FG Compressor Fluid line and Wins International Award for New Product Development

Breakthrough improvements to Purity FG Compressor Fluids deliver dramatic improvements in oxidation stability for robust performance in harsh food manufacturing environments

Mississauga, Ontario - Petro-Canada today announced dramatic enhancements to its line of PURITY FG Compressor Fluids. Building on the unique anti-oxidant chemistry of Purity FG Compressor Fluids, a leap in the level of oxidative resistance is provided with the inclusion of new FG additive technology, helping the product yield a much higher level of performance.

The "New and Improved" formulation is so advanced that it has already received international recognition, winning an International Stevie Award for Best New Product or Service of the Year in the manufacturing category in the 2010 International Business Awards.

Food processing machinery lubricants have some unique challenges. Stringent regulations, harsh environmental conditions and rigorous plant operations require well-designed food grade lubricants. Helping food manufacturers achieve higher levels of productivity from the equipment that drives their manufacturing processes while ensuring NSF H-1 compliance with FDA 21 CFR 178.3570 "Lubricants with incidental food contact", is Petro-Canada's number one goal. The improvements made to the PURITY FG Compressor Fluid line address a number of factors most notably oxidation stability and anti-wear properties to support stronger performance for less downtime and longer equipment life.

A robust "Next Generation" food grade fluid, the new and improved fluid with its strong oxidation stability can be used in more severe applications, hotter conditions, more difficult environments, as well as in more oxidatively stressful operations. With significant improvements in oxidation resistance over our already highly oxidatively stable product, customers can expect better performance over the long term. These advancements will continue to help Petro-Canada's customers operate the safest, most competitive food manufacturing plants in the world.

The processes and conditions in food manufacturing plants are tough and are getting tougher. Processing equipment must endure the extreme stresses placed on it oftentimes during a 24 x 7 manufacturing environment. Wet and humid conditions from climate & cleaning methods, along with start/stop operations, all provide challenges to the lubricant.

The demands on compressor lubricants become greater and greater as operations grow larger, processing shifts are extended, and as compressor design becomes smaller. All of these factors are symptoms of the ever increasingly competitive environments in which we operate. New and Improved Purity FG compressor Fluids 32, 46, 68 and 100 meet the highest food industry purity standards and fit perfectly in HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) plants. All fluid comply with FDA regulations 21 CFR178.3570 "Lubricants with incidental food contact". All fluids are H1 registered by NSF.

"After more than 20 years in developing food grade lubricants, Petro-Canada continues to bring innovation to the food processing industry with our unique products," says Colleen Flanagan, Category Portfolio Manager, Petro-Canada Lubricants. "New and improved Purity FG Compressor Fluids are the result of breakthrough Food Grade technology that builds on Petro- Canada's already exceptional properties and provides significantly stronger lubricant performance and durability."

"Improving the oxidation stability of our fluids in order to make them last longer and perform better has always been at the forefront of our design considerations," says Dr. Inga Kuksis, Product Specialist, Petro-Canada Lubricants.
