Perkinelmer's ACULED(TM) Selected by Visopia for Lighting Design-In for Mazda's Kabura Concept Car

Setting the Mood(TM) in Illumination with ACULED's Superior Brightness, Excellent Color Mixing and Compact Size

Fremont, Calif. - January 25, 2006 - PerkinElmer Optoelectronics, a global technology leader in digital imaging, specialty lighting and optical detection technologies, today announced that Visopia, a Los Angeles-based advanced lighting design company, selected PerkinElmer's high power RGB LED (light emitting diode) design, ACULED(TM) (All Color Ultrabright LED), as part of a high power lighting system for Mazda's Kabura 2006 concept car. Visopia leveraged ACULED's multi chip-on-board (COB) design to create a five-element headlamp, including high beams, low beams, accent light, turn signal and fog lamp, as well as side mirror turn indicator lights in this concept car.

Visopia's ACULED-based design for Mazda's Kabura 2006 concept car was unveiled for the first time at The 2006 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) held January 8-22 at the Cobo Conference/Exhibition Center in Detroit, Michigan.

"We are extremely pleased that designers such as Visopia are selecting PerkinElmer's LED solutions for their high profile, new automobile introductions," said John Roush, President, PerkinElmer Optoelectronics.

"The decision to use PerkinElmer's ACULED was simple - it was the only product that combined the power, color and size qualities we needed," said Carlo Quinez, lighting designer for Visopia. "Mazda and Visopia created a very innovative and technically challenging lighting concept for the low-beams that not only enhanced the Mazda prototype's versatility and safety, but also made the car exciting to drive and look at."

Ronny Bagdadi, another partner at Visopia continued: "The ACULED allows us to meet the expectations of designers at Mazda and other automotive companies that demand precise white point selection and an infinite palette of color lighting to help create the perfect balance of ambience and functional lighting."

Using PerkinElmer's compact ACULED design, Visopia is now able to meet high levels of brightness, color fidelity and lamp lifetime requirements, all needed to exceed manufacturer expectations in the automotive market. PerkinElmer's ACULED delivers superior specialty lighting, greater predictability, a competitive market-based price point, and reduced size, offering customers a superior alternative to traditional automotive lighting products.
