Original Press Release:

Process Seals Expands White Simriz® 506 and 509 Compounds Into North American Processing Market

ELGIN, Ill., -- Offering exceptional resistance to reactive media, organic solvents, acids and alkalis in a broad range of temperatures and pressures, the Simriz® family of perfluoroelastomer (FFKM) materials has been optimally designed for demanding applications. Recently, Process Seals introduced the newly developed white Simriz compounds to the North American processing industry.

Simriz 506 is a white compound for custom molded parts, whereas Simriz 509 is a white compound for use in O-rings. The high-performance FFKM material provides reliable sealing for nearly any medium and, due to its white color, is ideal for demanding hygienic applications in the pharmaceutical, and food and beverage industries.

The Simriz 506 and 509 compounds contain inert mineral fillers to prevent leaching when they come into contact with the media to be sealed, which is an essential prerequisite for seals in pharmaceutical and biotechnological applications. To meet the needs of pharmaceutical facilities and sterile environments, the compounds were developed to comply with all pharmaceutical-related specifications, including United States Pharmacopeia (USP) Class VI. Additionally, the materials are compatible for use in food and beverage applications, conform to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and EC 1935/2004 regulations, and are guaranteed to be free of animal-derived ingredients.

Simriz 506 and Simriz 509 materials have demonstrated good mechanical performance, excellent chemical resistance and low susceptibility to leaching in numerous tests. Further, in comparative immersion tests in ethylenydiamine, acetonitrile, ethyl acetate and other pharmaceutical-relevant solvents, they have demonstrated superior performance compared to white competitor compounds and are comparable to premium black compounds.

Simriz is a family of FFKM compounds that are designed to provide superior chemical resistance and thermal stability. Simriz seals maintain their cold flexibility down to negative 53.6 degrees F and can be used in operating temperatures up to 446 degrees F. Simriz materials possess the resilience of an elastomer with chemical resistance approaching that of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE).
