Perfectly-Timed with Today's BEA Acquisition, Phurnace Plans Support for Oracle(TM) OAS to BEA(TM) WebLogic Bi-Directional Migration

Web Application Server Configuration Software Will Simplify User's Transition

AUSTIN, Texas, Jan. 16 - Phurnace Software, Inc. (http://www.phurnace.com/), the java application deployment company, today announced planned support for Oracle OAS to BEA WebLogic web application server migration, dramatically reducing the cost and risk of moving applications to new server platforms.

"With today's announcement of Oracle acquiring BEA, many customers are faced with migration decisions or decisions on how to effectively support a mixed environment of web application servers," said Daniel Nelson, Phurnace co-founder. "The web application server market is experiencing considerable change right now but excitement and change are not what administrators want. For them, uncertainty is frightening. We built Phurnace Deliver(TM), to solve these types of problems, and let system administrators sleep better at night."

The new release will also support migrations in the opposite direction, from WebLogic to OAS. Phurnace plans to release this enhanced version of Phurnace Deliver in the second quarter of this year. The configuration management software enables system administrators to take a "snapshot" of one environment and instantly build an identical environment, but on a different brand or version of web application server. Phurnace currently supports IBM WebSphere and BEA WebLogic application servers, with a planned release of JBoss support in the next 45 days.

Phurnace Deliver is designed to provide comprehensive support for IT staff and developers during even the most complex enterprise java deployments to decrease errors, streamline deployments and avoid the server mis-configurations that come with manual or script-based processes.

Phurnace Deliver provides powerful configuration and deployment capabilities including:

o "Snapshot" the full configuration settings of any web application
server
o Compare configurations from different servers to quickly identify
differences
o Create an inventory of existing configurations
o Automate the deployment of tailored configuration settings along with
the binary files for an application (EAR, WAR files)
o Move applications from one web application server to another
o Migrate applications from one version of web application server to
others

Industry analysts estimate that as much as 40% of all down time is attributable to configuration errors. With the announced capability, Phurnace will greatly ease the transition for users from one web application server environment to another, regardless of which direction they are migrating. The software will also facilitate the support of heterogeneous environments where Oracle OAS and BEA WebLogic will both be running.

Spokesperson, Daniel Nelson, is available to discuss this news as well as comment on the Oracle acquisition of BEA.
