Pemco and Samuel Solves McLain Farms Problem with a More efficient way of Wrapping Pallets

McLain Farms old way of securing pallets was with an old standard stretch wrapping machine with breathable stretch film. The problem was that even though the film had plenty of air flow through, it wouldn't hold the weight of the boxes in place on the pallet and the load would shift in transit. When the truck would get to the point of delivery, 40 Lb. boxes of onions would be loose in the trailer.

Pemco was asked to come up with a better solution. Working with Samuel, a manufacture of stretch film and strapping machines came up with a stretch wrapping system that would not only secure the pallets and allow air flow through, but used less material, increased their output by automating the line, and made it easer.

Samuel's STA-550 stretch wrapping machine is completely automated with infeed and exit conveyors. The system is a turntable design that allows forklift operators to stage finished pallets of product upstream and unload finished pallets without stopping production. With its compact design, it is perfect for facilities without a lot of floor space. The STA-550 is capable of wrapping 40-50 pallets per hour depending on the number of wraps per cycle.

After purchasing the system, it exceeded McLain's expectations. Rusty McLain said, "Out of all the machines we purchased last year, that was the best piece of equipment we could have bought." He also added that it was the most dependable and trouble free.
