Eaton Announces New ePDU Functionality

Eaton Raises The Bar For Power Distribution In Data Centers With Enhanced Powerware ePDUs, Switched And Managed Functionality CLEVELAND ... Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation announced today new switched and managed function levels for its portfolio of Powerware® Enclosure Power Distribution Units (ePDU(TM)). Information Technology (IT) managers can now address escalating power requirements by having greater control and management for power distribution in data centers or high-density rack environments. Eaton is unique in the industry for providing a tiered set of ePDU products along two dimensions - power capacity and functionality. This allows customers to precisely match the appropriate combination of features and power rating needed for each application. Powerware ePDUs provide advanced metering, monitoring and management capabilities and complement Powerware or third-party uninterruptible power systems (UPSs) by distributing power to up to 45 receptacles anywhere conditioned power is distributed to multiple pieces of equipment. "The Powerware ePDUs underscore Eaton's commitment to delivering intelligent power distribution and power management solutions to the IT community," said Michael Camesano, Eaton product manager, ePDUs and Enclosures. "Eaton's portfolio of enclosure-based solutions is ideal for data centers across all power densities. With a plug-and-play architecture, the ePDUs organize power distribution, simplify cable management and allow IT managers to move, add or change equipment in the data center without having to commission an electrician." Powerware ePDUs with new switched and managed functions offer IT managers receptacle level control, a Web server interface, user-defined sequencing of outlets and virtual grouping of outlets to permit single-click reboots for multi-corded servers. Powerware ePDUs with managed functions include all functionality of switched and monitored ePDUs plus Eaton's advanced Revelation technology. This innovation allows IT managers to remotely monitor power consumption down to the individual receptacle level. This technology gives IT managers the ultimate in information and control over the data center environment. Powerware ePDUs provide features and options to match the unique requirements of each data center, from mounting options to remote monitoring to individual control of receptacles. Additional Powerware ePDU features include: o Available for single-phase and three-phase applications up to 36 kilowatts (KW), flexible enough for blade server and switchgear applications o User-selectable combination of NEMA, IEC and hardwired inputs and NEMA and IEC output receptacles o Enhances power availability by using separate circuit breakers for groups of receptacles (most models) to limit the impact of overload conditions o Supports remote monitoring and management at the outlet, branch circuit and ePDU level o Saves valuable rack space with flexible mounting options, including 1U, 0U, wall and floor mounting The switched ePDUs are currently available and the managed ePDUs will be available in May.
