JMR Electronics Expands BlueStor(TM) Family of Products with New PeSAN(TM) Technology
JMR to display latest innovative storage solutions at Storage Networking World Conference
Chatsworth, CA - October 15, 2007: JMR Electronics, Inc., a premier supplier of Storage and Server Platforms for OEMs, Systems Integrators and VARS, today announced the launch of its latest breakthrough in storage technology, the BlueStor(TM) External PCIe RAID Storage System with PeSAN(TM) Technology. JMR will be showing this new technology during Storage Networking World (SNW) at the Gaylord Texan Resort Hotel and Convention Center in Dallas, Texas. A working demonstration of the product will be available at AMD's booth, #G1.
PeSAN(TM) Technology is a wide bandwidth, high performance expandable storage using a switched architecture that avoids costly storage bus bridges or components like SCSI or Fibre Channel. The feature-rich BlueStor(TM) solution utilizes off-the-shelf PCIe RAID cards from a variety of popular manufacturers, all of whom are 100 percent compatibility tested. SAS or SATA disk drives can be used interchangeably in the array allowing for very diverse customization options. There is nothing on the market today that provides this level of enterprise class performance and reliability at such low cost.

Created with original JMR patented technology and architecture, the BlueStor(TM) is made with low-cost and lightweight disk carriers made from specially molded resin, providing the best vibration dampening of any product on the market. These carriers are also fully swappable between BlueStor(TM) PeSAN(TM) shelves, BlueStor(TM) SAS Expander JBOD shelves and BlueStor(TM) Storage Servers, minimizing spares cost. Disk drives are installed vertically rather than horizontally to improve SAS signal integrity and to maximize airflow, resulting in the coolest-operating disk drives possible. Only one multilane cable is used in the data path in order to maintain the flexibility of interchangeable RAID controllers.
About PeSAN(TM) Technology
Fully SES 2.0 compliant, JMR's PeSAN(TM) technology remotes the PCIe bus from the host server to the storage shelf allowing the user to plug in any PCIe device into the remote PCIe slot in the PeSAN(TM) I/O module. Users can also swap RAID controllers on the fly without opening the server, shutting down power, or re-booting. The RAID controller is in a hot-swappable module that easily plugs into the PeSAN without the need for tools. PeSAN(TM) includes SAS Expansion built in, supporting 16 disk drives in each storage shelf, and can be concatenated using standard external multilane SAS cables to additional storage shelves.
PCIe is the de facto I/O interconnect standard for today and the future, with an aggressive roadmap and a very active SIG (Special Interest Group) continuously updating the specification. It provides for "hot plugging" peripheral cards and is fully backwards compatible with all PCI software.
For optimum performance in large scale storage systems, BlueStor(TM) PeSAN(TM)-powered RAIDs may be expanded to 256 targets (up to 4096 disk drives) using JMR PeSAN(TM) Switches, available concurrently with the RAID storage product.
BlueStor(TM) RAID powered by PeSAN(TM) technology uses the RAID controller's Graphical User Interface (GUI) for array and enclosure management. Features vary by product, and JMR maintains an active compatibility list of proven technology partners. BlueStor(TM) also provides an exceptional Physical User Interface (PUI), which includes individual drive status, power status, fan status and PCIe link status - good or fail - making problems easily identified at a glance. The easy to access front panel power and alarm reset switches and real-time disk drive activity indicators keep day-to-day operations simple and convenient.
Pricing and Availability
PeSAN(TM)-enabled BlueStor(TM) products are priced well below a dollar per GB for large scale systems using SATA drives. Availability of production hardware is Q4 2007.
