Seco-Carboloy Announces New PCBN Grade

Industry's First Solid PCBN Inserts for Finish Machining, First with Pin Lock Holes

Warren, Michigan, Nov. 29, 2004 - Seco-Carboloy announced that it has become the first cutting tool manufacturer to make available a solid PCBN grade for finish machining of hardened steels. The company's new Secomax CBN100 indexable inserts, as well as grade CBN300 for cast irons, are also the industry's first and only solid PCBN inserts with a pin lock hole. The new Secomax solid PCBN inserts can be used with standard M, P and D style tool holders that are commonly used throughout the industry. By adding pin lock holes to its unique new line of Secomax solid PCBN indexable inserts, Seco-Carboloy has combined the advantages of multiple cutting edges with the added insert mounting security of the pin lock insert-clamping system.

According to Seco-Carboloy executives, the Secomax line of solid PCBN inserts with pin lock hole is the most comprehensive range on the market. For applications such as finishing of hardened steels, CBN100 with a pin lock hole is available in W and T style insert geometries. Both styles are also available in combination with a wiper cutting edge. For applications such as grey cast iron, CBN300 with pin lock hole is available in D, S, V and W style insert geometries.

Developed for light continuous cuts to moderate interruptions of hardened steels, hard facing alloys, and sintered steels, CBN 100 has a fine-grained structure and low (50%) PCBN content for excellent edge quality. Low thermal conductivity forces heat to remain in the cutting zone for successful finishing. Plunging in hardened surfaces is possible by using the full cutting edge length of a solid insert.

With a coarse grain structure and high (90%) PCBN content, CBN300 provides excellent edge retention and long tool life in roughing and finishing of pearlitic grey cast iron, chilled cast iron, and white irons, and for roughing hardened steels at higher metal removal rates.
