Original Press Release:

Shuman Plastics to Introduce New Flame Retardant PC/ABS Alloy Compound for Plastics Processors

(May 2003) - Shuman Plastics, Inc, Buffalo, New York, announces the introduction of its new flame retardant PC/ABS Alloy compound for plastics processors. Available as FR310 Utility Black and FR380 Gray, the new compound is being introduced by the
company for the National Plastics Exposition (NPE-2003), Booth #2013 McCormick Place South, in Chicago, June 23 - 27, 2003. According to Shuman Plastics, the new alloy offers excellent flame retardant properties, high impact strength, easy processing, good chemical resistance, and is self extinguishing.

Tested in compliance with ASTM methodology, Shuman's new PC/ABS compound has an IZOD impact strength of 9 ft-lbs/in (± 1.5) based on a notched, 1/8-inch thick trial specimen. The tensile strength is 7,000 PSI (± 1,000) and the flex modulus is
350,000 PSI (± 30,000). For flame retardant properties, it has a flame class rating of V0 based on a notched 1/8-inch thick trial specimen. Other properties include a specific gravity of 1.13 and a melt flow rate of 7 gm/10-min (± 3 condition) (I). Recommended processing conditions are 460° to 530°F (238° to 277°C), and dehumidified drying for three to four hours at a minimum temperature of 175°F and maximum temperature of 230°F (79°C to 110°C), according to Shuman Plastics.

Established in 1947, Shuman Plastics supplies thermoplastic raw materials, including compounds and resins to the plastics processing industry worldwide. In addition, the company is a buyer and seller of surplus, obsolete, and scrap material, and provides toll processing services. Shuman Plastics also manufactures Dyna-Purge®, a proprietary line of commercial purging compounds for injection molding, extrusion, blow molding, and compounding.
