Rugged Ethernet and Digital I/O PC/104 Board Lowers Size and Cost of Embedded Systems

PC/104-Plus Module with Ethernet and Digital I/O Eliminates Need for Additional Board

Newark, CA - June 10, 2004 - Diamond Systems Corporation, a leading supplier of embeddable computer and I/O boards, today announced the availability of the Mercury PC/104-Plus module. The board has been designed to integrate Ethernet connectivity with digital I/O, eliminating the need to purchase 2 separate boards for embedded computing applications.

The Mercury PC/104-Plus module offers 2 PCI-based NE2000-compatible 10/100Mbps Ethernet ports, utilizing the National Semiconductor DP83815 Mac + Phy PCI controller chip.

The 24 digital I/O lines are based on an 82C55 chip and feature programmable direction in 4- and 8-bit groups. All I/O lines contain user-configurable 10K Ohm pull-up resistors for convenience. Software support is provided by Diamond Systems Universal Driver software for Linux, Windows 98/NT/2000/XP, QNX, and DOS.

"Combining Ethernet and digital I/O on one board can help lower the size and cost of an embedded system by eliminating a board from the configuration." said Jonathan Miller, President of Diamond Systems Corp. "The ever-present need to reduce cost without reducing functionality, coupled with restrictive size requirements of embedded systems, makes the 2-in-1 Mercury PC/104-Plus module an extremely valuable component."

Extended temperature capability (-40 to +85°C) enables the board to operate in environments with extreme temperature swings, such as vehicles or outdoor installations. In addition, the board may be custom-configured with 0-ohm resistors in place of jumper blocks for increased ruggedness in high-vibration environments.

The Mercury PC/104-Plus module is also available in a low-cost version with one Ethernet port and no digital I/O (model no. MRC-100-XT). In quantity 1-9, the 2 Ethernet port configuration (MRC-224-XT) is priced at $190, while the 1 Ethernet port configuration (MRC-100-XT) is $150. Volume discounts apply for both when purchasing 10 or more units. For more information on this and other Diamond Systems products, call (510) 456-7800 or visit www.diamondsystems.com.
