PC/104 Module combines GPS receiver and cellular modem.

Press Release Summary:

On one board, PCM-GPS integrates GPS receiver, which provides position, velocity, and time information, as well as cellular modem, which supports standards-based multi-band GSM/GPRS and CDMA. Product, measuring 90 x 96 mm, also incorporates PC/104 interface, dual UART, and SMA antenna connector. It suits fixed and mobile applications that require navigation, tracking, data logging, timing, and/or communication functions.

Original Press Release:

WinSystems new PC/104 GPS Receiver and Cellular Modem for Fixed and Mobile Embedded Applications

March 7, 2005: Embedded Systems Conference-San Francisco, CA; Booth 1436 - WinSystems introduces the PCM-GPS, a PC/104 module that adds both GPS and cell modem support on a single card. The GPS receiver provides complete position, velocity, and time information while the cell modem supports standards-based multi-band GSM/GPRS and CDMA. This board is ideal for both fixed and mobile applications that require navigation, tracking, data logging, timing and/or communication functions.

The PCM-GPS is a PC/104-compliant board that measures 90mm x 96mm. It contains the PC/104 interface, dual UART, GPS receiver, SMA antenna connector, and Multitech cellular modem socket. The GPS receiver is based upon the Trimble (Sunnyvale, CA) Lassen SQ GPS Module. This module is a very low-power GPS solution designed to provide position, velocity, and time (PVT) data using the three most popular standard protocols: TSIP (Trimble Standard Interface Protocol), TAIP (Trimble ASCII Interface Protocol), and NMEA 0183. These protocols are compatible with most commercial navigation or map software packages.

The cellular modem section is based upon Multitech Systems (Mounds View, MN) SocketModem technology. Both the GSM/GPRS and CDMA units are complete, embedded cellular wireless modems. They provide the controller, RF transceiver, and antenna interface in one small module. Designed for global use, they offer standards-based multi-band GSM/GPRS Class 10 and CDMA2000 1xRTT performance. The SocketModem recognizes the AT command set for easy programming plus supports alarm management and Short Message Services (SMS). The PCM-GPS is shipped with an empty Multitech socket so that a user can install the cellular modem and conduct the final system installation and activation at their site. However, WinSystems will install and ship Multitech modules from our factory as well.

The board draws only 60 mA at +5 volts which includes power for the GPS antenna. Operational temperature range for the PCM-GPS is -400 to +850C.
