Original Press Release:

New Geode(TM) PC/104 CPU Module Is Fanless, High Performance Class Leader

Taipei, Taiwan, 1 November, 2001- Advantech Co. Ltd., a leading provider of hardware and software solutions for the e-world, is introducing a powerful new Geode GX1-300 PC/104 CPU card. The PCM-3350, with its GX1-300 onboard processor and low power, fanless performance, represents Advantech's next generation of high speed, low power PC/104 family of products. The stable Geode processor, onchip PCI VGA for VGA and TFT LCD support, and rock solid Intel® 82559 high performance Ethernet chip, provide amazing power and functionality. The ability to stack a full range of PC/104 modules such as sound, PCMCIA, GPS, additional LAN, plus many others, greatly expands the range of applications. The PCM-3350 is of course great for rugged industrial applications typically associated with PC/104 boards, but with such a powerful processor/system chipset, it is also great for applications such as medical equipment, small Internet appliances, mobile applications and other embedded controllers. Think of the PCM-3350 as a super small desktop computer, ready to go where you need it.

GX1-300 Processor Strong on any Platform
Many gains were made by utilizing the Geode GX1 processor. The GXI processor provides the lowest power consumption/high speed combination of any x86 processor at these performance levels. These processors also support most popular web plug-ins and leverages existing software and hardware investments. The GX1 processor brings 0.18-micron technology to the Advantech PC/104 line and allows users to enjoy the added speed and efficiency 0.18-micron technology has to offer. These benefits become apparent by the fact the GX1 processor enables 300 MHz capability, but uses less power than most CPUs in its performance class.

Super Small Versatile Performer
The PCM-3350 has all the power and features indicative of larger CPU control boards, but checks in at the standard PC/104 size of 96 mm x 90 mm! It is the perfect 586-level upgrade for our PCM-3346 486 DX66 CPU module. Because it retains the exact same pin layout configuration, it can quickly plug in to any existing PCM-3346 application. It has 256 KB Flash memory, a 144-pin SODIMM socket which can accept up to 128 MB SDRAM, and support for up to two EIDE devices with BIOS auto-detect, PIO Mode 3 or Mode 4 transfer, Ultra DMA33 mode (ATA-4) up to 33 MB/sec. The PCM-3350 supports up to two FDDs plus one serial RS-232 port and one RS- 232/422/485 port. There are two USB 1.0 compliant ports, one parallel port and a mini-DIN connector that supports a standard PS/2 keyboard and mouse. There is a CompactFlash socket that can act as an emulated hard drive as well. An 18-bit TFT LCD panel is supported with flat panel display resolution up to 1024 x 768 @ 18 bpp. Non-interlaced CRT monitor resolutions up to 1024 x 768 @ 24 bpp are also supported.
