parvus Offers Combined MIL-STD-1553 and NE2000-Plus Ethernet PC/104 Interface for Military/Avionics Applications

Extended Temp PC/104 Databus Interface for Ethernet and 1553 Protocol Available from parvus

SALT LAKE CITY - October 3, 2002 parvus Corporation today announced that its PC/104 1553/Ethernet Interface board is shipping. This Commercial-Off-The Shelf (COTS) PC/104 form factor module is designed to bring both MIL-STD-1553B protocol and NE2000-Plus Ethernet compatibility to an embedded avionics computer system. The board operates over an extended operating temperature range of -40º C to +85º C and is competitively priced at $1,575/each in volume orders of 100 or more.

Measuring only 3.550" x 3.775" in size, the 1553/Ethernet Interface (Part Number: PRV-0950X-01) utilizes Aeroflex UTMC's SµMMIT MIL-STD-1553 support chip to operate as a data Bus Controller (BC), Remote Terminal (RT), or Bus Monitor (BM) for a variety of 1553 military avionics and ground vehicle applications. Four 16-bit register locations allow complete access to interface functions through PC/104 I/O space, while test routines enable access to memory and internal registers. The support chip also allows interrupts to be generated and routed to the PC/104 bus.

The Ethernet portion of the board is fully NE2000 and NE2000-Plus compatible and based on the popular National Semiconductor AT/Lantic AT DP83905 chip, taking advantage of this chipset's proven reliability and the maturity of drivers available in most operating systems. The standard version of the board includes a 4-pin, low-profile Molex connector for 10BaseT connections, enabling a standard RJ-45 jack to be cabled out for panel-mounting in a faceplate, endcap, housing, or bulkhead.

APPLICATIONSThe PC/104 1553/Ethernet Interface is specifically designed to work with transformer-coupled stubs in military Local Area Network (LAN) applications, including airplanes and helicopters, as well as space and land-based systems. 1553 technology is commonly used to process data for navigation and attitude,
weapon status indications, target tracks and electronic warfare lines. The board's Ethernet functionality expands its potential application into additional military communications environments.
