Patented Non-Contact SAW Torque Transducers Available in Custom Ranges

Pittsford, NY: TorqSense RWT320 is a series of digital, configurable, non-contact SAW rotary torque transducers with integral electronics and serial output. Available in versions from 500mNm to 10,000Nm, RWT320 interfaces with LabView-based software to indicate on any PC or laptop the torque, speed, power, and peak torque of rotating drive systems, ideal for monitoring, testing, or control.

TorqSense RWT320 transducers use Surface Acoustic Wave technology to provide cost-effective, accurate, non-contact digital rotary torque measurement, ideal for a wide range of OEM applications. TorqSense patented technology precisely measures the strain-induced resonant frequency change in 'frequency dependent' internal surface acoustic wave devices without loading the drive with extra inertial load. SAW devices are also not affected by external magnetic fields. The output signal is coupled via a non-contact RF rotating coupling.

Integral electronics in TorqSense RWT320 enable resonant frequencies to be measured, and offer user-selectable features, digital outputs and diagnostics. Additionally, the sensors monitor and output shaft temperature to allow for better compensation and accuracy. With high accuracy (to ±0.25%FS) and resolution (0.1%FS) TorqSense RWT320 transducers operate both statically and dynamically, clockwise and counter-clockwise, with excellent noise immunity.

In addition to the serial (RS232 or USB) connection for interfacing with modern instrumentation and laptops, there are two user-selectable voltage or current analog outputs (torque and speed, power or peak torque) for interfacing with legacy analog instrumentation.

TorqView software - easy-to-use, advanced torque monitoring software, is also available to assist data recording and instrumentation displays that interface with Windows-based PCs. With three display types offering real-time chart plotting, users can set the display to their preference, or export the data as text files compatible with Matlab and Excel. DLLs and LabView VIs are also available, enabling users to design their own process control applications or write their own custom software. Configuration software allows users to change transducer variables. Self-diagnostics are also provided to give users confidence that the data is trustworthy, that torque or speed ratings have not been exceeded, and to supply the date of the transducer's calibration.

TorqSense sensors are made by Sensor Technology, one of Europe's premier torque transducer suppliers, and are available from $1800 (qty 1) from their USA distributor Saelig Co. Inc. Pittsford NY. info@saelig.com; www.saelig.com
