Passavant Area Hospital Bolsters Already Stringent Cleaning Protocols for Added Patient Protection

Tru-D SmartUVC Disinfection Robot to provide enhanced terminal room disinfection

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Passavant Area Hospital has added to its already strict cleaning strategies with the addition of Tru-D SmartUVC, a germ-eliminating UV disinfection robot. The hospital, located in Jacksonville, Illinois, is an affiliate of Memorial Health System and has been providing healthcare services in West Central Illinois since 1875. With a focus on adopting emerging technologies to remain a leader in innovation, Passavant strives to provide the highest level of patient quality of care. Specifically, Passavant will be using the disinfection robot in the operating room suites and in other areas, such as isolation rooms, with the focus on proactively stopping the spread of C.diff (Clostridium difficle), MRSA (methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus), Norovirus and other hospital-acquired infections.

"Passavant Area Hospital is committed to providing a safe and clean environment for our patients and staff," said Kerri Barton, Manager of Environmental Services at Passavant Area Hospital. "Having Tru-D will elevate our existing cleaning protocols to add another layer of protection to ensure our facility is germ-free."

Once the hospital Environmental Services staff cleans a room using traditional methods, Tru-D is brought in to complete the process. Operating from a single position and administering a single cycle of UV light, Tru-D takes the minimum time necessary to disinfect an entire room, including shadowed areas. Tru-D cleans a typical patient room in approximately 20-25 minutes, freeing up the Environmental Services staff for other tasks during the cleaning cycle. Once the cleaning cycle is complete, Tru-D automatically shuts down and sends an audio signal to the operator that disinfection is complete.

The only UV disinfection system with patented Sensor360 technology, Tru-D is able to analyze a space including size, shape and contents, to deliver an automated, germicidal dose of UV light to kill up to 99.9% of pathogens. Validated by more than a dozen independent studies, Tru-D's combined automated, measured dosing capabilities and real-time usage-tracking feature, iTru-D, make Tru-D the most precise and advanced automated UV disinfection system available.

"By taking a proactive approach to preventing the spread of infectious diseases, Passavant Area Hospital has proved its dedication to protecting its patients and staff," said Chuck Dunn, president and CEO of Tru-D SmartUVC. "Tru-D will be an integral part of the team at Passavant and demonstrate to patients and staff that their safety and quality of care is top-of-mind."

The most studied UV disinfection robot on the market, Tru-D was the only device of its kind selected for the first-ever randomized, clinical trial of UVC disinfection. Results of the landmark Benefits of Enhanced Terminal Room Disinfection (BETR-D) study, which was funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, proved that enhanced terminal room disinfection strategies decreased the cumulative incidence of multidrug-resistant organisms such as C. diff, MRSA and VRE by up to 30 percent, and the largest decreases were seen when Tru-D was added to the standard cleaning strategy.

"Tru-D will help ensure that each room will receive the highest level of cleanliness possible, giving our patients and staff added security in their health and safety here at Passavant Area Hospital," said Barton. For more information, visit Tru-D.com.

About Tru-D SmartUVC

Tru-D SmartUVC is the only UV disinfection device backed by a CDC-funded, randomized clinical trial to show that it is capable of reducing the transmission of health care-associated infections by up to 30 percent. More Tru-Ds have been deployed to disinfect hospitals across the globe than all other competing look-alike offerings, fighting deadly pathogens such as C. diff, MRSA, CRE, VRE, MERS, Ebola and many more. An effective and innovative technology backed by sound science, Tru-D SmartUVC is on a mission to eradicate HAIs making hospitals safer places for patients and staff.
