Part Caster and Materials produce nylon prototypes.

Press Release Summary:

Fitted with nylon program module, MCP/04 vacuum casting machine manufactures nylon prototypes and parts in 6 min. Nylons PA 700 and PA 1000 are PA-6-grade plastics that exhibit flexural modulus of 108,750-137,750 psi, tensile strength of 4,640-6,090 psi, and heat deflection temperature of 169 to 269°F @ 66 psi. RenPIM-VG SG 220 vacuum casting polyurethane is transparent white for pigmenting and produces parts with 285,000 psi flexural modulus and 8,100 psi tensile strength.

MCP and Vantico Introduce Nylon Part Casting Process and New Prototyping Materials

EAST LANSING, Mich., May 13, 2003 - A new method for rapid manufacturing of nylon prototypes and parts along with a new RTV silicone rubber for molds and two new PA-6-type nylons were introduced today by MCP Systems and its North American distributor, the RenShape® Solutions Tooling Group of Vantico A&T US Inc., at Rapid Prototyping & Manufacturing 2003 in Chicago. Also announced was a new polyurethane for vacuum casting.

The new process utilizes a specially designed MCP/04 vacuum casting machine that is now available in the U.S. from Vantico. The equipment, fitted with a unique nylon program module, yields economical, production-quality nylon parts in just six minutes. The process is especially well suited for producing complex, thin-walled (0.02-inch/0.5-mm thick) prototypes that are both durable and able to withstand exposure to heat, chemicals and abrasion. The nylon castings are also air- and water-tight, making them ideal for functional testing of automotive inlet manifolds as well as parts used in electrical, medical and recreational equipment.

Also introduced for nylon casting were an easy-to-handle MCP silicone rubber for fast production of durable (20+ parts) molds and two nylon formulations. MCP's PA 700 and PA 1000 nylons are PA-6-grade plastics that exhibit performance characteristics including: flexural moduli of 108,750 psi to 137,750 psi, tensile strengths of 4,640 to 6,090 psi, and heat deflection temperatures of 169°F to 269°F (76°C to 132°C) @ 66 psi.

A new vacuum casting polyurethane, designated RenPIM-VG SG 220, was unveiled at RP&M as well. The product is transparent white for easy pigmenting and features a low, easy-to-handle viscosity. It produces durable parts with a flexural modulus of 285,000 psi, tensile strength of 8,100 psi, elongation of 8% and heat deflection temperature of 198°F (92°C).

Vantico's RenShape Solutions Tooling Group manufactures and markets a broad range of stereolithography materials, epoxies and polyurethanes for modeling, moldmaking, prototyping and forming initial parts to the automotive, foundry, aerospace and general manufacturing industries. The company has been a world leader in plastic tooling materials for more than 60 years.

MCP-Group was founded in 1863 as a mining company and is today involved in metals, chemicals, medical systems and rapid prototyping. With manufacturing companies in the U.S., England and Germany and its sales offices and agencies, MCP provides processes and know-how to a worldwide customer base.

MCP has 50 years of experience in supplying equipment and materials for mold requirements. Vacuum casting systems were added to the portfolio in 1987 to meet the increased demand for quick prototypes followed by the introduction of the metal part casting process in 1999.
