Parkinson Technologies to Feature New Biax Film and Sheet Technology, New Products at K 2010

Parkinson Technologies Inc. will feature the latest biaxially oriented film and sheet products produced on their Marshall & Williams orientation machinery at the K 2010 show in Dusseldorf, Germany, October 27-November 3. In addition, the company will feature two new machines at its stand: the Genesis 700 slitter/rewinder for small to mid-size converting operations, and the Key Filters KCN continuous screen changer.

New Oriented Plastic Film and Sheet Products

A highlight of the Parkinson Technologies exhibit at K 2010 will be a display showing some of the latest biaxially and monoaxially oriented film and sheet products that have been produced on the company's Marshall & Williams orientation systems. These products will include:

-PVDF for solar energy applications

-3 micron BOPP for capacitor applications

-BOPET for optical display applications

-BOPLA for renewable/biodegradable packaging applications

-Separator film for rechargeable battery applications

-Cavitated film for specialty packaging applications

"These product samples represent state-of-the-art technology developments in oriented film and sheet," said Pete Termyn, President & CEO of Parkinson Technologies. "High-performance products for the alternative energy, optical display and biopolymer markets require high-performance orientation systems to manufacture them. We work closely with our customers to achieve successful trials on our extrusion and orientation pilot line, then leverage that success into production equipment that meets their specific needs."

Genesis 700 Slitter/Rewinder

The recently-introduced Genesis 700 center-driven duplex slitter/rewinder is being shown for the first time at a trade show outside of the U.S. Especially designed for small to mid-size converting operations, this machine can handle a broad range of materials at high productivity levels.

"We believe this new slitter/rewinder is the most affordable, yet feature-rich machine of its type on the market," said Pete Termyn, President & CEO of Parkinson Technologies. "It is designed for a specific market range: small to mid-size manufacturers who are looking to achieve cost savings and flexibility by bringing converting capabilities in-house, or rolled goods suppliers who need incremental converting capability in a highly efficient footprint."

The Genesis 700 is the newest addition to the existing line of converting systems from Parkinson. It has features and capabilities not normally seen in slitter/rewinders in this market segment, including:

-Full-featured Human Machine Interface (HMI) with full PLC controls

-Web tension optimization for handling a wide variety of materials

-Razor and rotary-shear slitting

-Pre-engineered to accept numerous available options

In addition, it features a compact footprint that saves valuable floor space; employs an integral unwind system with numerous features; and has a short web path for improved rewind roll quality.

The HMI on the Genesis 700 has a comprehensive set of user screens designed for simple operation and maintenance. The intuitive design of these screens means that no extensive operator training is necessary. The HMI also features an Ethernet connection for remote diagnostic capabilities.

"This is a very versatile machine that we feel has best-in-class technology," said Joe Connelly, Product Manager at Parkinson who was instrumental in the development of the new Genesis 700. "The sophisticated yet easy-to-use aspect of the HMI is a major feature. It will fill a niche in the flexible packaging, label stock and film markets for both producers and users of those materials."

KCN Continuous Screen Changer

The Key Filters KCN Continuous Screen Changer provides melt filtration for plastic extrusion applications. It is ideal for applications where a line stop is unacceptable. The KCN uses a continuous ribbon of Reverse Dutch Weave stainless steel filter media that advances to a clean status when the filter gets clogged from contaminants in the plastic melt flow.

This unique design allows the KCN Continuous Screen Changer to maintain a virtually constant operating pressure, as close as +/- 20 psi.
