Parker Boiler Provided a New Mega Resort, Agua Caliente in the Greater Palm Springs Area, With a Complete Hot Water Boiler Solution

The $350 million dollar transformation of Agua Caliente Casino into a luxury resort has been deemed the 9th largest private construction project in California by California Construction Magazine. A new hotel tower housing 340 guestrooms required ten Parker Boilers to be installed.

Because of the proven reliability of the heavy duty ultra low NOx Parker Boilers in the Las Vegas Casinos, when Benjamin Yeung, Project Engineer of SMA Engineers in Las Vegas began laying out the mechanical, he selected Parker Boilers for the central plant for all of the hot water heating and domestic water needs. To insure the system design was applied and installed correctly, the Mechanical Contractor, Pacific Rim, was also hired in a design-build capacity and worked well with the projects* Designer / Architect, VOA Associates Inc., and the General Contractor, Roel Construction, as well as Parker Engineers on the layout, selection and design of the entire system.

The relationship between the Agua Caliente and Parker Boiler goes back to the year 2000, when the Tribe built its first casino, the Agua Caliente Casino in Rancho Mirage. Two (2) Parker WH1210L Skid mounted units for domestic hot water (with a tank) were installed.

o All the selected boilers were provided with Parker*s multiple Metal Fiber Low NOx burners and variable speed drive fan assisted combustion controls.

o All Parker equipment meets the SCAQMD Requirements of Ultra Low NOx emission (the toughest air quality emissions restrictions in the World). Boilers with capacities above 2 mm btu input in SCAQMD are required to meet a 12 ppm NOx emission level.

o Three (3) T5700LR High Efficiency Ultra Low NOx Boilers were selected for the closed loop space heating needs.

o For the Potable water, Las Vegas Parker Boiler representative Dean Mc Cook of Mc Cook Boiler & Pump, and the engineer came up with a unique dual temperature potable water system. In lieu of using blending valves, (3) WH2650LR Ultra Low NOx High Efficiency Indirect Water Heaters were selected including a Parker Storage Tank.

o The secondary sides of the heaters are piped to a tempered water tank for the 120*F service requirements, the primary side of two of the units are piped into a double wall tank heater bundle in a separate tank to boost water temperatures to 160*F for the kitchen and laundry services.

o For the new 10,500 sq. ft. spa with luxurious treatment rooms, state-of-the-art fitness center and private pool, two (2) Parker WH730L Low NOx Indirect Fired Heaters, tank and accessories were selected for potable water needs. The spa is located adjacent to the resort's expansive pool area and 13,000 sq. ft. conference center.

o Fitting this gorgeous property with Parker Boilers was not without challenges; Parker engineers designed the system keeping in mind the area's high winds, which are notorious for blowing sand and dirt into combustions systems. Special attention was paid to the fan assemblies to prevent these destructive winds from harming the burner safety or tuning of the special low emission equipment. All of the units over 2 mm btu input included built-in economizers or external economizers for maximum system efficiency also reducing total greenhouse emissions.
