Parascript SignatureXpert Wins Forensic Signature Verification Competition

Parascript SignatureXpert delivers the lowest error rate in forensic signature verification among seven participants at 12th International Conference on Frontiers in Handwriting Recognition

Longmont, CO - Parascript, LLC, the image analysis and pattern recognition technology provider, today announced that its SignatureXpert was awarded best performance for forensic signature verification at the 12th International Conference on Frontiers in Handwriting Recognition (ICFHR2010) in Kolkata, India, held November 16 - 18, 2010. Parascript was among seven participants representing a total of 10 offline signature verification systems from several countries. Parascript SignatureXpert delivered the lowest error rate at 8.94 percent, performing significantly higher than the rest. The next best rate from a competitor was 16.42 percent.

The objective of the competition was to compare automatic signature verification performances on new, unpublished forensic-like datasets to bridge the gap between recent technology developments and the daily case work of the forensic examiner. The Forensic Signature Verification Competition aimed at evaluating the performance of automated systems on a new large dataset comprised of genuine and simulated signatures. The high-quality offline signature database was provided by the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria University in Spain.

"We are proud to demonstrate that our signature verification technology can offer a scientific, objective tool to aid forensic handwriting experts," said Alexander Filatov, president and CTO for Parascript. "Our technology is already used in such diverse applications as detecting signature forgeries on financial documents and verifying voter authenticity on vote-by-mail ballots worldwide."

Parascript's SignatureXpert leverages artificial intelligence and exploits the most comprehensive and advanced methods in the art of signature verification available. Automatic comparison is executed by a powerful combination of verifiers. In particular, the technology combines a human-like holistic analysis of signature segmentation with a subsequent analysis of the signature elements and characteristics.

Parascript's SignatureOnline, its biometric signature verification software, was also awarded best performance for online signature verification in July 2009 at the 10th International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition (ICDR) in Barcelona, Spain.
