Paralleling Switchgear Control streamlines operator control.

Press Release Summary:

Entellisys Pro(TM) allows one operator, from one location, to monitor and control entire facility's power distribution system. It increases system redundancy to maximize uptime and minimize interruptions. In emergency situations, each generator automatically starts and parallels itself to generator bus. Features include built-in SCADA system, data tracking and timing, automatic generator kW and kVar soft loading capabilities, GE governor controller, and built-in VAR/pf controller.

GE Introduces New Paralleling Switchgear Control

New Entellisys Pro(TM) Streamlines Operator Control

Chicago, IL - June 25, 2003 - The Zenith Controls products team of GE Industrial Systems and the General Electric Company (NYSE: GE), has announced the availability of the new Entellisys Pro(TM) paralleling switchgear control. A revolutionary concept spring boarding off the GE Cimplicity software base, this system allows one operator, from a single location, to monitor and control an entire facility's power distribution system.

Entellisys Pro(TM) creates a dramatic increase in system redundancy, maximizing uptime and minimizing system interruptions. All generator programmable logic controllers (PLC) are equipped to perform as the master controller. One PLC is all that is necessary for the master control logic to function, meaning systems will continue to operate in the event of simultaneous PLC failure. In an emergency, every generator is hard-wired to automatically start and parallel itself to the generator bus.

"Entellisys Pro is a design scheme intended to cover all parallel switching gear applications. It far exceeds the industry norm in all major respects, such as redundancy, flexibility, speed, and footprint reduction," said John Kilinskis, product manager for Zenith Controls transfer switches and paralleling switchgear.

Entellisys Pro(TM) features include:

Built-in SCADA System

Data Tracking and Timing

Automatic Generator kW and kVar Soft Loading Capabilities

GE Governor Controller

Built-in VAR/pf Controller (standard)

Load Sharing (kW and kVar) (Standard)

Automatic Synchronizer that checks for voltage matching (Standard)

The built-in SCADA system adds an enhanced degree of system maintenance flexibility. Screens on the Main Interface Panel (MIP) can be viewed locally or remotely using a standard Internet browser, effectively turning any PC on the network into a remote SCADA terminal.

The Entellisys Pro(TM) system control is packed with the functionality to be field configured and easily modified, which helps eliminate the extra costs associated with common late modifications. It has been engineered for all modes of power management, including generator and utility soft loading and unloading, base loading, isolated power, import and export, and zero power transfer.

Data tracking and timing are also important system features. The Entellisys Pro will track and record basic power values from each source as well as the positions of all controlled breakers, automatic transfer switches, and the status of all manual controls for one year of data trending at a one-second resolution. The system can also be configured to notify the building engineer, engine dealer and/or switchgear manufacturer at preset maintenance dates for each of the engine generators, transfer switches, and breakers in a facility one-line.

All loads in Entellisys Pro(TM) are provided with load add and shed contacts. This allows the system to reassign its priority in the field with no additional wiring or PLC programming. The system is programmed to dynamically track the size of each individual load, allowing a single user to quickly determine loads need to be readjusted. The system is also designed to dynamically add or shed load based on the system load level, rather than using inflexible load blocks.

As an added convenience, a GE governor controller is a standard feature of the Entellisys Pro. The governor can be used in conjunction with the existing speed controller or can act alone to control speed.
