PaR's Laser Center of Excellence Delivers Two High Pressure TE CO2 Lasers
Pretoria, ZA - PaR Systems Center of Excellence for sdilasers(TM) recently designed, built, and shipped two transversely excited High Pressure (HP) CO2 lasers for two different customers, one in India and one in the USA. The lasers will be applied in the following fields:
· Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC) is a government laboratory of India based in Mumbai. They will apply their continuously wavelength adjustable 10Hz HP CO2 laser with side arm catalyst for research into development of optically pumped molecular lasers and related research.
· STI Optronics is a small business located in Bellevue, Washington, USA, that is developing an ultrashort-pulse tunable CO2 laser system for remote sensing applications. A key component of this system is the high-pressure 3Hz HP3 CO2 laser, which features an intracavity agile tuner and a gas flow-through system. The HP3 will be used to amplify short pulses.
PaR Systems Center of Excellence for sdilasers(TM) is one of the only laser manufacturers in the world with in-house technology and experience to design and construct High Pressure CO2 lasers. The company has supplied similar lasers for application in high energy physics application for research into cancer treatment, and for pulse amplification applications.

The high pressure systems can be configured as an amplifier instead of an oscillator for the above mentioned applications. The system design allows for easy maintenance and servicing, and is fully automated to enable remote control from a computer via a RS232 link. The control software features a comprehensive set of status and error messages that make the system easy to use. The laser also features an optical arc detection system for protection from improper discharge conditions. It can be configured to have a grating or agile tuner for manual or automatic line tuning of the laser.
