Original Press Release:

New ABB Touchscreen Paperless Data Recorder Adds Powerful Functions for Process Operations

New RVG200 paperless data recorder incorporates advanced features to give operators easy and secure access to process data.

WARMINSTER, PA, –ABB announces the introduction of its RVG200 videographic recorder with touchscreen technology. The recorder provides easy access to process data for on site operators, while enabling secure remote access to that same data from any tablet, smartphone, PC or other networked device.

Using intuitive icon-based menus or by "swiping" through the screens, operators can rapidly find the process data they need. They can view this data in a variety of formats, including individual or grouped charts, bar graphs or digital indicator displays.

The RVG200's integrated webserver enables remote access from a PC, tablet or smartphone, providing a true anytime, anyplace overview of the current status of the RVG200 and the monitored process.

The RVG200 is integrated into a plant network through a 100 Mbit/s Ethernet connection, giving remote operators access to a wide range of functions and benefits. The recorder can notify operators via email of process alarms or critical process events, automatically sent to their PC or smartphone. It can also be configured to routinely email summary reports of process conditions.

Process input functions are AMS2750E compliant, making the RVG200 suitable for temperature recording in aerospace and automotive heat treatment processes.

Up to 24 universal analog inputs enable direct connection of mA, mV, TC, RTD, voltage and digital signals. Coupled with a 125 ms sample rate and 500-volt channel-to-channel isolation, these inputs deliver reliable, highly accurate data from connected process instruments.

Front and rear USB ports permit users to connect a variety of peripheral devices, such as a USB memory drive, enabling archived process data to be transferred from the RVG200 to ABB's DataManager Pro software for analysis. For batch applications, attaching a USB barcode scanner provides a quick way of adding batch-specific information and avoids the risk of typographical errors via manual entry.

Communication capabilities include MODBUS over Ethernet or RS485, providing an excellent way to securely integrate the RVG200 into a control or PLC system. Capable of acting in master (client) mode, the RVG200 can collect data from other devices, which can be displayed on screen and archived alongside directly connected process signals.
