ULT Frameless Pancake Resolver
Applimotion introduces ULT Frameless Pancake Resolvers for applications in sensitive areas where encoder electronics are not welcome. ULT resolvers are ideal for systems requiring large
through-holes with low profile mechanics and limited angle of rotation. Applimotion has versions of these resolvers shadowing their successful ULT series brushless direct drive motors. The company is willing to create custom sizes in 6-8 weeks eliminating the historical long lead time associated with this technology.
ULT resolvers range from 3 to 15 inch diameters with through-holes from 2.5 to 14 inches. Each resolver comes with a high resolution angular error map (AEM) allowing customers to compensate for mechanical error electronically. AEM corrected resolvers can approach the accuracy of encoder based systems with the added benefit of absolute position information within one revolution.
Resolvers have historically been praised for their robust design which is insensitive to temperature variations (not unlike the motor it self in design). They are also well suited for shock, drop and vibration requirements of many industrial and military devices. Temperature ranges from -40 deg C to +130 deg C are no problem for this technology. Most servo amplifiers have optional resolver to digital converters. 16 bits resolution is typical, and higher resolution is also available.
