Oxygen Gas Stream Analyzer measures 7.5 x 4.3 x 2.3 in.

Press Release Summary:

Weighing less than 2 lb, GSA(TM) Model 102 is suited for online form-fill-seal food packaging applications with continuous gas flushing. GSA(TM) Model 102 D is available with LED display that shows actual reading and sends data to equipment's control panel. Device comes with CalSmart(TM) process that enables user to choose time and frequency that GSA(TM) automatically calibrates, while FlowSmart(TM) monitors in stream gas flow to insure that adequate gas sample is being collected.

MOCON Intros Smallest-Ever Oxygen Gas Stream Analyzer; Size, Function Improvements Enable Easy Installation

Pack Expo Las Vegas Booth S-4914

Minneapolis, MN (October 15, 2007)- MOCON, Inc. (NASDAQ: MOCO) introduces the smallest oxygen gas stream analyzer (GSA(TM)) ever manufactured for online form-fill-seal food packaging applications with continuous gas flushing.

The GSA(TM) Model 102 is L7.5- x D4.3- x W2.3-inches, making it one-third the size of other commercially-available gas flush analyzers. Further, it weighs less than 2-pounds, which is less than one-tenth the weight. (The key to the size reduction lies in
proprietary sensor technology.) The significantly smaller size simplifies installation on new units or retrofitting on existing form-fill-seal equipment.

A GSA(TM) Model 102 D also is available. This model features an LED display on the side of the unit showing the actual reading-as well as sending the data to the equipment's control panel, which has been programmed to take specific action when readings exceed an acceptable target level. (The Model 102 functions in a similar way, but works through the package machinery's control systems and display.)

Gas flushing is desired in a variety of food applications where carbon dioxide or
nitrogen is flushed in to the package to displace oxygen so that shelf life is extended.

Typical applications include meats, coffee, nuts, snack foods, fruits and vegetables, etc.

Online GSA(TM) models are desirable because they insure more uniform product quality, maximize industrial gas efficiency and compliment the effectiveness of post production headspace gas testing. Because the gas stream is measured prior to the package being sealed, there is an added layer of quality assurance. Problems are discovered earlier in the process which allows flush gas flow corrections to be made more quickly. Plus, the online method enables a continuous reading of oxygen vs. hand-held units, which are very effective at performing periodic post-production product checks.

However, up until now, the size and weight of the online gas analyzers made them
difficult-to-impossible to retrofit onto existing form-fill-seal units. The palm size GSA(TM) Model 102, coupled with its proprietary sensor technology, changes that.

MOCON's GSA(TM) 102 also comes with two patented processes-CalSmart(TM) and FlowSmart(TM).

CalSmart(TM) enables the user to choose the time and frequency that the GSA(TM) automatically calibrates.

FlowSmart(TM) monitors the in stream gas flow to insure that an adequate gas sample is being collected. Should a disruption occur, the instrument will trigger an alarm alerting the operator.

Further, GSA(TM) is built with durable pumps rated for 10-year life and does not require factory-performed sensor replacements. The GSA(TM) sensor life exceeds two years and can be replaced for a nominal cost, by the operator in about 10 minutes, significantly
reducing plant operations expenses and the demand on plant maintenance support
personnel.
