REDMOND, Wash. - Ossia, Inc. (www.ossiainc.com), the company behind the Cota remote wire-free charging technology, today announced it has been awarded its fifth patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office: U.S. Patent No. 8,854,176. Ossia's latest patent pertains to the capabilities of the company's Cota wireless charging system to self-charge batteries through the use of 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz focused microwave energy. Batteries of any shape, including standard and custom-sized batteries, can be charged wirelessly using Cota.

The Cota technology is designed to target and charge many devices simultaneously, regardless of whether a device is stationary or moving. With an effective charging radius of 30 feet, a single Cota charging station can charge the battery-operated devices in every room of an average home or office suite. Ossia is the only operating company that has been awarded patents related to RF remote wireless power.

"In today's increasingly mobile society, having devices that are always on and always ready is a critical need in our daily lives," said Hatem Zeine, founder and CEO of Ossia. "Our latest patent covers technology that allows people to use Cota to power rechargeable batteries, wirelessly powering-up their most critical devices, such as smart phones, headsets and the like, all at the same time, without any user intervention. Many other industries such as industrial, medical and utilities can benefit from our patented self-charging battery system as well. This patent, combined with our four previously awarded patents, makes up a truly disruptive technology that is set to change everything people think they know about wireless power."

Ossia's U.S. Patent No. 8,854,176 details how a rechargeable battery technology, which is comprised of circuitry that is designed to receive power transmission signals from a wireless transmitter/charging unit. The charging unit contains a controller and phased array antenna that transmit power to a specific location where the rechargeable battery is located.

In addition to the five patents granted by the U.S. Patent Office to date, Ossia owns a growing portfolio of issued, granted and pending patent assets that cover both the core of the company's wireless power technology and key aspects of its deployment. This patent portfolio has a global reach.
