Oshkosh Truck Subsidiary, Pierce, Introduces First Custom-Designed Seat to Enhance Safety and Comfort for Fire Fighters

OSHKOSH, Wis.--Sept. 15, 2006--
New Seat Features Built-In Side Roll Protection System

Oshkosh Truck Corporation (NYSE:OSK) announced today that its subsidiary, Pierce Manufacturing Inc., North America's leading manufacturer of fire and rescue apparatus, has unveiled another new safety feature, the PS6(TM) seat, at the Fire Rescue International show in Dallas. The PS6 is the first seat designed specifically to dramatically increase safety and comfort for fire fighters, and it is the first to feature built-in side roll protection. It is exclusively available from Pierce and features six major components, including:

o Side roll protection is built directly into the seat for advanced occupant protection during a side roll

o A hands-free, self-contained breathing air (SCBA) holder which is inertia activated and tested up to 30G

o Dual-seat belt retractors and double-length seat belts that provide more belt for fire fighters to fit over turnout gear and promote seat belt use during transport

o A 17-inch cushion and larger bolster pads with dual-density foam provide greater comfort in every seating position

o A 7.5 degree angle of recline provides a more comfortable ride position

o Lumbar adjustment, air suspension and auto-center position adjust for individual drivers

"We listened when fire fighters told us that crew safety is a major concern. We responded by leading development of a safer seat featuring hands-free SCBA holder, an improved seat belt system, and the built-in side roll protection," said John Randjelovic, executive vice president and president of Pierce Manufacturing. "The PS6 is a significant development for fire fighter safety and comfort, providing performance advantages that no other seat in the industry can offer."

The hands-free SCBA holder, which is patented by Pierce and was co-engineered with Lifeguard Technologies, a division of IMMI, offers distinct advantages over traditional seat SCBA holders. The SCBA system eliminates any straps or levers, making it easier and faster for fire fighters to grab their breathing air system when exiting the fire truck to respond to an incident. The hands-free holder was tested to withstand up to 30G, meaning it's able to safely contain the breathing air system at 21Gs more than required by industry regulations.
