OSF St. Joseph Medical Center Automates Ordering, Delivery and Documentation of Patient Education with GetWellNetwork

Hospital Successfully Interfaces GetWellNetwork PatientLife System with GE Centricity Enterprise

ORLANDO, Fla., Feb. 25 -- HIMSS Annual Conference, Booth #1920 -- GetWellNetwork, Inc., a leading provider of Interactive Patient Care (IPC) solutions, today announced that OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington, Ill. has successfully interfaced the GetWellNetwork® PatientLife System® with its GE Centricity Enterprise system. By interfacing the GetWellNetwork system with the hospital's existing clinical information system from GE Healthcare, nurses are able to effectively prescribe education content, monitor patient progress and view results directly through the clinical system.

"Interfacing the two systems not only enables the nurses at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center to more easily educate our patients, but documentation of that education now automatically becomes part of the patient's medical record without the nurses having to take any additional steps," said Deb Smith, RN, vice president and chief nursing officer of OSF St. Joseph Medical Center. "Connecting the system used by nurses on a daily basis to the system used frequently by patients has been invaluable to the hospital staff."

With the integrated systems, nurses and physicians can order specific education videos for a patient directly through the GE Centricity Enterprise system, which results in the videos being made available through the on-screen menu of the GetWellNetwork system. In addition, the order triggers a GetWellNetwork Patient Education Pathway to send a message to the patient's television monitor informing him/her that education material has been prescribed and prompting the patient to begin watching the videos.

As the patient watches the videos, the GetWellNetwork system sends updates back to the GE Centricity Enterprise system, allowing hospital staff to closely track the progress of the prescribed patient education. OSF St. Joseph Medical Center has made this advanced functionality available in its Birthing Center with plans to roll out to its Orthopedic/Neurological Unit, Transitional Care Unit, Clinical Decision Unit, Critical Care Unit and the Family Care Center.

"Effective delivery of patient education is crucial to improving patient care and meeting compliance requirements and core measures," said Michael O'Neil, Jr., founder and CEO of GetWellNetwork, Inc. "Achieving this type of interoperability and efficiency at OSF St. Joseph takes Interactive Patient Care to a new level by fully integrating the solution into clinician workflow."

The GetWellNetwork system empowers patients and families by placing them at the center of their own care experience. The system turns the television in the patient room into an interactive resource during a hospital stay. By using a wireless keyboard, touch screen or handheld device, patients can interact with the system to access valuable education, communication and entertainment tools directly at the bedside.

GetWellNetwork, Inc. is exhibiting the PatientLife System and its integration capabilities at the HIMSS Annual Conference on February 24-28 at booth #1920. For more information, please visit http://www.getwellnetwork.com/view_eventdetail.asp?id=20.
