Agilent Technologies' New 1 GHz Oscilloscopes Speed Digital Product Design at Industry's Lowest Prices

New MSO Product Enables R&D Engineers to Easily View up to 18 Time-Aligned Signals on One Instrument, Offers Faster Testing and Debugging Than Traditional Four-Channel Scopes

PALO ALTO, Calif., June 2, 2003 -- Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today introduced two new dual-channel 1 GHz oscilloscopes that are being offered at the industry's lowest prices. The new mixed-signal oscilloscope (MSO) and digital storage oscilloscope (DSO) combine advanced measurement features and performance functions to help R&D engineers in the computer, communications, defense and semiconductor industries to simplify and speed the development of new digital products.

The Agilent 54833D Infiniium 1 GHz MSO enables R&D engineers to easily view up to 18 time-aligned (2 scope + 16 logic timing) signals on one instrument. The new MSO offers 18 channels and triggering capabilities that enable faster testing and debugging of state-of-the-art technologies than what is possible with traditional four-channel oscilloscopes. For example, technology blocks such as PCI or the SDRAM memory commonly applied in embedded applications require four control lines and the clock to define the mode of operation at any point in time. The new Agilent MSO is able to isolate specific cycles of operation as well as perform real-time waveform monitoring on one instrument, functions that traditional oscilloscopes are unable to do alone.

The Agilent 54833A Infiniium dual-channel 1 GHz DSO offers all the features found in the award-winning Infiniium product line, including a simple front panel interface, easy access to advanced features through its Microsoft® Windows® interface, and advanced trigger and measurement features.

"Agilent's mixed-signal oscilloscopes extend Agilent's leadership in the 60 MHz to 1 GHz mixed-signal oscilloscope market by enabling measurements that are not possible with traditional oscilloscopes," said Ron Nersesian, vice president of Agilent's Design Validation Division. "Agilent is committed to providing our customers exceptional value, and these new products allow engineers operating under tight budgets to benefit from the performance of Agilent Infiniium oscilloscopes."

The new dual-channel Infiniium oscilloscopes, equipped with Agilent's proprietary, deep-memory MegaZoom technology, offer the deepest standard memory on the market today. The 54833D 1 GHz MSO comes with 2 Mpts of deep memory per channel, and the 54833A 1 GHz DSO comes with 500 Kpts of deep memory per channel. Optional memory up to 16 Mpts is available for the 54833D/A models at an affordable price.

The 54833D/A 1 GHz scopes, with acquisition memory depths up to 8 Mpts per channel and sampling rates up to 4 GSa/s, eliminate the frustrations of sluggish responsiveness associated with previous deep-memory oscilloscopes. Agilent's MegaZoom Infiniium oscilloscopes enable the capture of long serial data waveforms and instant responses even with the deepest memory, and can quickly zoom-in and search through data without delays. In addition, the MegaZoom memory system's high-speed display minimizes missed events or under-sampling of a waveform, and it enables users to avoid time-consuming manual setups.

The new Infiniium 1 GHz oscilloscopes are based on the Microsoft Windows XP Pro open operating system, and offer users the ability to run third-party Windows applications including Excel, MATLAB®, Mathcad and Norton AntiVirus. In addition, users can access and control Infiniium oscilloscopes from remote locations using the built-in Web software and 10/100BaseT LAN connections.
