Agilent Technologies Introduces Oscilloscopes with Broadest Measurement Capability, Industry's Biggest Display

Six New Models Offer Industry's Only Built-in Logic and Protocol Analysis, Widest Range of Debug and Compliance Applications

SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 1, 2009 -- Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today expanded its mixed-signal and digital-storage oscilloscope portfolio with six new models that comprise its next-generation Infiniium 9000 Series. These scopes offer the broadest measurement capability with true analog bandwidths up to 4 GHz, impressive scope performance, and built-in logic and protocol analysis. Each model, equipped with the industry's largest screen -- a 15-inch (38.1 cm) XGA LCD display -- comes in a highly portable package that is just 9 inches (22.86 cm) deep and weighs only 25 pounds (11.3 kg).

Agilent's 9000 Series oscilloscopes are the world's first scopes with integrated logic analysis channels and a protocol analyzer viewer for buses such as PCIeTM and USB. These integrated features extend scope functionality, making it easier for engineers to test complex designs, and giving companies higher oscilloscope utilization for better return on capital equipment.

Design and test teams in nearly every electronic industry, including computer, communications, semiconductor, aerospace/defense, automotive and wireless industries, continue to produce more sophisticated hardware designs. Oscilloscopes are the primary tool to test and debug those designs, and engineers require increasingly broad measurement capability to deliver robust products on schedule. Agilent's new Infiniium 9000 Series oscilloscopes have the bandwidth to handle faster speeds, and they incorporate both logic and protocol analyzer capabilities to address the newer technologies being widely deployed in today's embedded designs.

"We use scopes extensively during product development," said Adrian Hernandez, hardware development engineer at Xilinx Corp. "With three instruments in a single box - and applications like jitter and FPGA dynamic probe - the Infiniium 9000 Series represents a significant advancement in debugging systems that include FPGAs." Xilinx programmable solutions fuel product innovation in diverse markets worldwide and are designed for a wide range of applications.

Benefits of the Agilent Infiniium 9000 Series oscilloscopes include:

  • Three instruments in one. In addition to impressive analog specifications, the Infiniium 9000 boasts the world's fastest integrated digital channels running at 2 GSa/s. This provides the richest set of MSO (mixed signal oscilloscope) trigger conditions for more accurate analysis of timing relationships between control signals and data buses. The industry's first in-scope protocol viewer for PCIe and USB enables engineers to extend their debug and testing capabilities without finding and hooking up additional test equipment. This capability gives designers faster insight into challenges that involve protocol-rich serial buses.

  • Broadest suite of debug and compliance application software. Packed with numerous general-purpose measurements and analysis features, Infiniium 9000 Series oscilloscopes can be customized with a number of unique software options. Supported application packages give engineers meaningful insight into common serial buses, FPGAs and RF measurements, and allow for rapid compliance testing to industry standards. Twenty-five optional applications are available:

  • Debug application software includes protocol triggering and viewing for PCIe and USB, serial decode and trigger for I2C, SPI, CAN, RS-232 buses and other UART microcontrollers, rapid core-assisted debug of designs with Xilinx or Altera FPGAs, InfiniiScan for triggering on infrequent signals that meet visual criteria, and many more.

  • Compliance testing applications include communication mask testing, DDR1, DDR2, DDR3, Ethernet and USB 2.0.

  • MATLAB(r) data analysis software available as Agilent options -- directly from Agilent -- on all Infiniium 9000 Series models. These packages enable oscilloscope users to make customized measurements, create and apply their own filters, and analyze and visualize live oscilloscope data. The Infiniium 9000 Series oscilloscopes are the first instruments to include MATLAB software at introduction.

  • Most innovative form factor. All Infiniium 9000 Series models are equipped with 15-inch displays - the largest in the industry - that offer 57 percent more display area than scopes with 12-inch displays. Larger displays have become increasingly important as scopes need more space to display digital and serial signals in addition to traditional scope channels. These scopes, designed with ASICs and Xilinx Virtex-5 technology, are the thinnest, lightest and most portable in their class, making them ideal for teams that share a scope.

"Agilent has been the fastest-growing scope vendor since 1997," said Scott Sampl, vice president and general manager of Agilent's oscilloscopes business. "We focus our engineering efforts on delivering the measurement capability our customers need. The Infiniium 9000 Series has the performance and application support today's engineers have asked for, along with logic and protocol analysis, in a package that's just impressive."
