Dematic Introduces "PickCart with Voice" for Order Fulfillment



Picking productivity increased with batch picking of multiple discrete orders

Grand Rapids, Mich., Monday, December 10, 2007 - Dematic, a leader in logistics automation solutions, systems and service, has introduced a paperless real time order fulfillment solution called PickCart with Voice. This innovative order fulfillment configuration merges batch picking methodology with a PickCart and voice directed technology, creating a highly efficient picking solution for applications that require discrete order fulfillment of low to moderate volume split case items.

In a typical configuration, the Dematic pick cart will have 3-4 shelves to accommodate the shipping cartons or containers for multiple orders. Each batch pick cart can accommodate up to 40 orders, depending on the product sizes. Each pick cart operator is equipped with a wearable voice terminal powered by software from Dematic called PickDirector.

Dematic's PickDirector releases the orders to each operator and directs each order picker on the most efficient pick path via voice commands. Once at a pick location, PickDirector asks the operator to confirm the location via check digits or by scanning a bar code at the location. From there, the operator is instructed on how many of a specific SKU to pick for each discrete order container on the PickCart.
