Oracle Retail Dominates Emerging EMEA Markets

Innovative Local Retailers Turn to Oracle® Retail Applications to Help Drive Business Growth and Improve Profitability

NEW YORK, Jan. 15 /- NRF 96th ANNUAL CONVENTION & EXPO -- As the retail industry continues to grow apace across emerging markets in EMEA, Oracle (NASDAQ:ORCL) continues to be selected by innovative, local retailers looking to drive business growth and expand internationally. In the last quarter, Oracle significantly grew its retail presence in emerging EMEA markets with new business wins in Slovakia, Russia, Kenya and Turkey, alongside more mature markets including Poland and Norway. Oracle was selected in many cases because of its proven capability to offer rapid speed to value; its strong retail expertise; and its best practice solutions and processes.

"The rate of retail sales growth in many emerging markets far exceeds the activity in any developed market," explains Graham Newland, Senior Director for Retail, EMEA at Oracle. "To manage these changes, remain competitive and successfully grow their businesses, retailers in emerging markets are realising that their businesses require proven, world-class retail systems that can deliver value rapidly. The completeness and scalability of Oracle's retail applications and the support for achieving rapid return on investment is helping to provide our customers with a competitive edge in both mature and emerging markets, while allowing them to remain focused on customers in terms of value and service."

For retailers who are successful in their local markets but are faced with considerable challenges and competition from established foreign retailers entering their markets, Oracle offers an end-to-end system that can manage all aspects of the modern retail business. The completeness and design of the Oracle retail systems from back-office financials and HR through the planning and supply chain processes to the store systems, enable retailers to implement an entire new solution or focus on a particular aspect of the business that will deliver rapid return on investment, such as optimising in-season performance.

This approach to focus on a particular aspect of the business in order to maximise growth and take advantage of opportunity benefits is a developing pattern for many upcoming retailers, including Nakumatt in Kenya and EXIsport in Slovakia, which recently selected Oracle® Retail applications.

"We have a number of business requirements for profitable growth," said Sailesh Savani, IT Director, Nakumatt. "Oracle Retail applications are designed specifically for retail, offer a breadth of functionality supporting end-to-end processes, and have a history of success and demonstrable achievements with leading grocery retailers including Tesco, Sainsbury's and Sonae. This strongly influenced our decision that Oracle was the right vendor to support the development of our business."

Tomas Bel, CEO of the leading Slovakian sportswear retailer, EXIsport said, "The future of our business relies on international expansion. Our business has reached a market saturation level locally, and in order to successfully expand and compete effectively internationally, we need to manage the business better and identify 'opportunity' benefits which enable growth, maximise profit, and deliver rapid speed to value on our investments. Oracle Retail's partnership and pedigree has supported the creation of a strategy to deliver value on a consistent, scalable basis, which aims to deliver a leaner, more successful retail business."
