Oracle Infrastructure Software Drives Cadec Global's Advanced Transportation Management Platform

Performance, Reliability, Scalability and Ease-of-Integration Lead Growing Business to Select Oracle® Database and Oracle Fusion Middleware

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Oct. 10 / - Oracle today announced that Cadec Global, a provider of advanced fleet management systems, is using Oracle software as the foundation of its, newly launched software-as-a-service-based (SaaS) PowerVue fleet tracking system. Cadec's groundbreaking new offering is built on Oracle® Database and Oracle Fusion Middleware running on Linux with a .NET-based front end.

A recognized innovator in fleet management, Cadec helps its customers increase driver productivity and retention, reduce costs, and facilitate regulatory compliance by providing hardware and software that delivers up-to- the-minute information on a broad spectrum of mobile asset performance metrics, such as vehicle location, miles driven, jobs completed and fuel consumed. When the company decided to augment its product line by developing its PowerVue SaaS offering, the company's Chief Architect, Heimir Sverrisson considered software from several vendors, including IBM and Microsoft, before opting to use Oracle.

"In moving from a client/server-based architecture to a hosted environment, we knew we had to address a number of issues in terms of performance, stability and scalability," said Sverrisson. "Oracle's proven track record helps eliminate those concerns, and its software provides us with a robust, enterprise-class infrastructure that will give customers confidence in our solution."

Cadec expects customer adoption of PowerVue to be strong, and anticipates that the company will soon be managing a 24/7 data stream from more than 50,000 individual trucks or mobile assets. Oracle Database and components of Oracle Fusion Middleware including Oracle Application Server, Oracle Business Intelligence Discoverer, Oracle Enterprise Single Sign-On Suite, Oracle Internet Directory, and Oracle SOA Suite help enable Cadec to offer PowerVue's secure user provisioning and comprehensive, role-based reporting capabilities on an open platform.

Oracle's open platform was critical to the success of the Cadec's move to its SaaS model, as it enabled them to maximize resources by using existing development skills and tools to create its user interface on .NET, which was then easily integrated with the Oracle infrastructure. Also, using the Oracle-powered SOA, Cadec can quickly and easily make updates to individual services within PowerVue with minimal risk and impact on the backend. Equally important, Oracle's platform helps enable Cadec to provide customers with a standards-based system that facilitates integration of third-party applications into the PowerVue system, thereby extending the value Cadec can bring to its customers.

"The database, reporting and middleware infrastructure we now have in place provides us with a significant amount of power and flexibility in terms of the kinds of reports and real-time dashboards we can offer to our customers," said Sverrisson. "For a rapidly growing business like ours, that is critical. We expect this Oracle-powered architecture to be a significant competitive advantage."
