Oracle® Database Delivers Record Performance and Price/Performance for a Two-Processor x86-Based System with TPC-C Benchmark

Landmark Speed and Scalability Attained with Oracle® Enterprise Linux

ORACLE OPENWORLD, SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 12 -- Oracle today announced that Oracle® Database running Oracle Enterprise Linux on an HP ProLiant ML370 G5 server set a record with the TPC-C benchmark by delivering the best two-processor performance and price/performance for an x86-based system(1). This achievement, the first Oracle benchmark on the new Quad-Core Intel® Xeon® Processor X5460, builds on Oracle's long standing history of industry leading TPC-C results and commitment to delivering record-breaking performance and scalability on Linux.

The record benchmark result was reached with Oracle Database running on an HP ProLiant ML370 G5 server and HP StorageWorks 70 Modular Smart Arrays, with two Quad-Core Intel® Xeon® Processor X5460. The configuration, which was running Oracle Enterprise Linux with Oracle Unbreakable Linux Support, achieved 273,666 transactions per minute with a price/performance of $1.38/tpmC.

"With this benchmark result, Oracle demonstrates that the combination of the Oracle Database and Oracle Enterprise Linux deliver both the best performance and the best price on the most popular low end 'sweet spot' - an x86 two socket Quad Core system," said Juan Loaiza, senior vice president Systems Technology, Oracle. "Combine leading price and performance with Oracle's legendary availability, security and functionality and you have an unbeatable combination."

TPC-C is an OLTP (online transaction processing) benchmark developed by the Transaction Processing Performance Council (TPC). The TPC-C benchmark defines a rigorous standard for calculating performance and price/performance measured by transactions per minute (tpmC) and $/tpmC, respectively.
