Oracle Announces Oracle Information Appliance Foundation on Dell and EMC

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., May 23 -- Building upon Oracle's Information Appliance Initiative, Oracle today announced the Oracle Information Appliance Foundation on Dell and EMC to help joint customers speed the implementation of data warehouses based on Oracle® Database 10g, Dell PowerEdge servers and EMC CLARiiON networked storage systems.

The Oracle Information Appliance Foundation on Dell and EMC is a reference configuration that delivers a prescribed database, server and storage mix optimized for data warehouses containing one terabyte Tb of raw data. Developed from real-world customer deployments, it can be used as a data warehouse "building block." Because these components are modular, they can be combined to support larger data warehouses, thereby offering customers the ability to scale their solution over time. The Foundation comprises a carefully assembled set of CPU resources, memory, I/O and disks that have been combined into a balanced and optimized design that avoids capacity or performance bottlenecks. Specifically, this Foundation consists of dual processors, dual core Dell PowerEdge 2950 servers running Linux, two Emulex or QLogic Host Bus Adapters, Brocade four-gigabyte switch technology and one EMC CLARiiON CX-310 networked storage system. This configuration has been thoroughly tested by Oracle and is just the latest Foundation jointly developed by these three industry leaders. Other Oracle Information Appliance Foundations on Dell and EMC are available, designed to address a customer's specific price and performance needs.

"Building on our long history as the data warehouse market leader, Oracle is working with EMC and Dell to provide an easy to size, buy and deploy data warehouse solution," said Willie Hardie, vice president of Database Product Marketing, Oracle. "Together with our partners, we're offering joint customers the high performance, reliability and scalability of Oracle Database 10g on a proven platform of Dell servers and EMC storage systems."

"Dell, Oracle and EMC have enjoyed a strong relationship for many years, delivering innovative solutions to meet the needs of our joint customers," said Darren Thomas, vice president and general manager for Dell's storage business. "The Oracle-Dell-EMC Information Appliance Foundation offers customers a strong foundation for data warehousing from the onset as well as a roadmap to help customers easily scale as needed."

"The long-standing collaboration amongst EMC, Dell and Oracle enables us to help reduce the risk customers face in developing a well-designed, scalable data warehouse solution," said Chuck Hollis, Vice President, Technology Alliances, EMC. "The Oracle-Dell-EMC Information Appliance Foundation will help joint customers achieve considerable cost and time savings."
