Oracle and SilverStorm Announce General Availability of Reliable Datagram Sockets (RDS) InfiniBand Interconnect Solution for Oracle® Real Application Clusters 10g

Combined Oracle and SilverStorm Solution to Deliver Enhanced Performance and Scalability for Oracle's Database Clusters

ORACLE OPENWORLD, SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 23 // -- SilverStorm Technologies, the leader in high performance interconnect solutions for clustered computing, and Oracle today announced the general availability of Reliable Datagram Sockets (RDS) InfiniBand interconnect solution for Oracle(R) Real Application Clusters 10g. Oracle Real Application Clusters 10g enables enterprise grid computing and is used by over 8,600 customers to provide high availability and scalability in the database tier.

RDS over InfiniBand delivers a cost effective, highly available and scalable database solution. RDS provides a high bandwidth, low latency, ultra reliable inter-process communication (IPC) protocol and transport system that dramatically speeds up IPC communication between servers in a cluster. In beta testing, SilverStorm RDS over InfiniBand provided up to 60 percent performance improvement over Gigabit Ethernet for interconnect-intensive applications. RDS has been rigorously tested by Oracle to meet the stringent performance and availability requirements of their most demanding enterprise customers. Today, Oracle customers such as Kelly Services and JDA Software Group are already deploying Oracle Real Application Clusters and SilverStorm RDS to achieve new levels of database performance, scalability and availability while dramatically reducing their total cost of ownership.

"We're delighted with SilverStorm RDS over InfiniBand and plan to use it as our standard platform for all Oracle Database implementations going forward," stated Bill Demsky, principle technology architect at Kelly Services. "Coupled with high performance industry-standard servers, this solution set provides low cost commodity-based server scalability to mission- critical applications that previously required expensive vertically scaled solutions."

Similarly, JDA's Strategic Supply and Demand Management (SSDM) application algorithms are rigorous and intensive, especially on the database. According to William Song, senior database administrator, "JDA employs an advanced enterprise grid computing architecture to provide performance and scalability in solving extremely large SSDM problems. With SilverStorm RDS over InfiniBand, JDA is now able to bring the database into the grid, allowing us to offer a complete enterprise grid computing solution, greatly improving performance while lowering TCO for our clients."

"SilverStorm's RDS solution enables new levels of performance, scalability and availability for database clusters," noted Juan Loaiza, senior vice president, Systems Technology at Oracle. "RDS provides Oracle Real Application Clusters customers with interconnect-intensive applications with a path to easily scale their databases to meet their business needs. Together, Oracle Real Application Clusters and SilverStorm RDS are an exceptional combination for enterprise data centers."

"SilverStorm continues to build on its strong leadership in the development of high performance, enterprise-ready cluster solutions for Oracle Real Application Clusters," said Russ Hawkins, CEO of SilverStorm Technologies, "and we look forward to continuing our efforts with Oracle to help our customers grow their businesses on Oracle Real Application Clusters."

RDS is available today in Oracle Database 10g Release 2, version 10.2.0.3 at no cost, and in SilverStorm's QuickSilver 3.2 or later host release for Linux.
