Optocoupler has 8 mm creepage/clearance requirement.

Press Release Summary:

Featuring 2.5 A maximum peak output current, ACPL-K312 gate drive optocoupler offers fast IGBT switching, making it suitable for IGBT/MOSFET gate drives, ac/brushless dc motor drives, industrial inverters, and switching power supplies. Supporting operating temperature range of -40 to +100°C, CSA approved unit offers low power consumption with Icc of 3.0 mA and CMR of 15 kV/ms at Vcm = 1.5 kV. Undervoltage lockout prevents undesired IGBT turn-on which can lead to long term damage.

Original Press Release:

Avago Technologies Ships Industry's Smallest 2.5 A Gate Drive Optocoupler with Low Power Consumption and 8 mm Creepage/Clearance Requirement

Flexible and Efficient Design Simplifies and Lowers the Cost for Isolation Requirements

SHANGHAI, electronica & Productronica-China, March 19, 2008 - Avago Technologies today announced a new gate drive optocoupler. The company is a leading supplier of analog interface components for communications, industrial and consumer applications. With 2.5A maximum peak output current, Avago's new ACPL-K312 successfully addresses low power consumption requirements and provides high noise immunity. Fast IGBT switching improves efficiency and makes the new gate drive optocoupler ideal for IGBT/MOSFET gate drives, AC/brushless DC motor drives, industrial inverters and switching power supplies.

The ACPL-K312 offers low power consumption with a low Icc of 3.0 mA and high CMR of 15 KV/ms@Vcm = 1.5kV. Low Icc also allows for a boot-strapping topology on high-side drive which eliminates the need for an auxiliary power supply and provides smaller storage capacitance. The new gate drive optocoupler supports a wide operating temperature range of -40 degrees to +100 degrees C. With under voltage lock out (UVLO), Avago's new ACPL-K312 prevents undesired IGBT turn-on which can lead to long term damage. The ACPL-K312 is housed in a stretched SO-8 package and provides 8 mm creepage and 8 mm clearance which reduces up to 40% of board design space versus standard 300 mil DIP packages.

The ACPL-K-312 is CSA approved. Approvals in the following widely accepted international safety standards are pending: UL1577 and IEC/EN/DIN EN 60747-5-2.

Pricing for Avago's ACPL-K312 begins at $1.67 in 10,000 piece quantities. The product will be available on March 25 through Avago's direct sales channel and worldwide distribution partners.
