Optical Transceivers feature transmit disable function.

Press Release Summary:

Multimode 2x5 Small Form Factor optical transceivers for Fast Ethernet and OC-3 data rates are MSA-compliant. Addition of Transmit Disable Function allows use in Wide Area and Metropolitan Area Networking applications that implement Automatic Protection Switching or N+1 port redundancy. Duplex LC-interface transceivers are available for standard commercial temperature of 0 to 70°C or industrial temperature of -40 to +85°C.

Stratos Lightwave Announces Multimode Optical Transceivers for Fast Ethernet and OC-3 Data Rates, with Integrated Transmit Disable Function

PALM BAY, FL-Stratos Lightwave Inc. is introducing a new family of Multimode optical transceivers for the Fast Ethernet and OC-3 data rates. Stratos Lightwave has added the Transmit Disable Function, previously available only in Fast Ethernet and OC-3 Single Mode Transceivers, to its family of LED-based Multimode 2x5 Small Form Factor transceivers. These MSA-compliant, duplex LC-interface transceivers are ideal for the next generation of Wide and Metropolitan Area Networking equipment applications.

Many Wide Area and Metropolitan Area Networking applications implement APS (Automatic Protection Switching), or N+1 port redundancy, which requires a Transmit Disable Function. The addition of the Transmit Disable Function to the Multimode 2x5 Small Form Factor (SFF) transceivers enables drop-in replacement to the existing 2x5 SFF Single Mode Transceiver footprints, offering instant upgrade capability for Multimode applications.

All Stratos Lightwave Multimode transceivers are available for standard Commercial temperature (0° to +70° C) or Industrial temperature (-40° to +85° C) rating applications. These transceivers exhibit exceptionally low levels of jitter over the full Bellcore operating temperature range of -40° to +85° C.

Pricing for Stratos Lightwave's Multimode Fast Ethernet and OC-3 SFF transceivers with the Transmit Disable Function depends upon the requirements of the specific application, and ranges from $50 to $80 in production quantities. Delivery is typically from Stock to 8 weeks.

Stratos Lightwave is a market leader in high data rate optical communications, with a comprehensive line of high-performance, highly reliable fiber optic modules and subsystems. Stratos produced the industry's first Multimode LED and VCSEL-based LC transceivers for Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet and Fibre Channel applications, and one of the first to offer 1Gbps 1x9-pin SC VCSEL transceivers, 2xFibre Channel Small Form Factor (SFF) transceivers and Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) transceivers. Stratos' highly miniaturized RJ-Format modules are the industry's first and most compact multi-port LC optical transceivers.

Stratos Lightwave, Inc. (NASDAQ; STLW) develops, manufactures and sells optical subsystems and components for high data rate networking, data storage, and telecommunications applications. These optical subsystems are used in local area networks (LANs), storage area networks (SANs), metropolitan area networks (MANs), wide area networks (WANs), and the telecommunications market. The company also designs, manufactures, and sells a fill line of
optical components and cable assemblies for use in these networks. Stratos Lightwave was recently named to Deloitte & Touche's prestigious "Fast 50" Program for Greater Chicagoland-for the second year in a row. This is a ranking of the 50 fastest growing technology companies in the area, based on five-year revenue growth from fiscal year 1996 through fiscal year 2001.
