Stratos Lightwave Announces Optical Transceivers Compliant With The New Infiniband Communications Standard

CHICAGO, IL--Stratos Lightwave, Inc. is announcing the availability of Small Form Factor (SFF) 2x5 and Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) optical transceivers for use with the new InfiniBand communications standard. Operating at 2.5Gb/s, these transceivers--and this new communications standard--are intended to provide better input/output performance in heavy-traffic environments such as servers, remote storage devices, and within multi-processor systems. Improved eye pattern characteristics ensure reliable data transfer performance.

Stratos SFF 2x5 InfiniBand transceivers bring the benefits of this new communications standard to the traditional 2x5 package. These transceivers are packaged in an MSA-compliant, all-metal housing, for superior EMI and RFI performance. These low-profile transceivers will fit in mezzanine card systems. And by populating their circuit boards with 2x5 SFF sockets--also available from Stratos--OEMs can install these transceivers at any step in their manufacturing or quality-control processes.

Stratos SFP InfiniBand transceivers address the demand for increased port density in optical networking infrastructure equipment by delivering twice the port density of current industry standard removable transceivers. These MSA-compliant transceivers are hot-pluggable, greatly facilitating reconfiguration and field service operations in mission critical networking and telecommunications applications. Stratos SFP InfiniBand transceivers use a standard LC fiber optic interface, and are packaged in an all-metal housing for industry-leading emissions and thermal management performance. A number of options are available for these transceivers, including a new bail latch.

Stratos also offers a full line of cages and connectors.

Stratos SFF and SFP InfiniBand transceivers are available from stock, in production quantities. Pricing varies depending on form factor specified, options requested, and quantities ordered. Typical pricing is under $100.00 each in large quantities.

Stratos Lightwave, Inc. (NASDAQ STLW) develops, manufactures and sells optical subsystems and components for high data rate networking, data storage, and telecommunications applications. These optical subsystems are used in local area networks (LANs), storage area networks (SANs), metropolitan area networks (MANs), wide area networks (WANs), and the telecommunications market. The company also designs, manufactures, and sells a full line of optical components and cable assemblies for use in these networks. Stratos Lightwave was recently named to Deloitte & Touche's prestigious "Fast 50" Program for Greater Chicagoland--for the second year in a row. This is a ranking of the 50 fastest growing technology companies in the area, based on five- year revenue growth from fiscal year 1996 through fiscal year 2001.
