Optical Transceiver supports ranges up to 10 km.

Press Release Summary:

Based on SystemOnGlass(TM) technology, DragonFly 40G integrates 4 transmitters, 4 receivers, and optical MUX/DeMUX into QSFP package that delivers 40 Gbps data link. Optical connectivity is based on 2 SMF LC connectors. Tx and Rx each consist of four 10 GBps CWDM channels with wavelengths in 1,300 nm range. Featuring hot-pluggable electrical interface, transceiver is compliant with 40G Ethernet IEEE 802.3ba 40GBASE-LR4 draft standard as well as QDR/DDR Infiniband data rates.

ColorChip Unveils the DragonFly - the Industry's Smallest 40G LR Transceiver

First to demonstrate a 40G pluggable transceiver in QSFP form factor for ranges of up to 10km over single mode fiber

CAESAREA, Israel, - ColorChip, a leading designer and manufacturer of optical sub-systems and components based on Application Specific Photonic Integrated Circuits (ASPICs), announced today the availability of the industry's first QSFP 40G pluggable LR transceiver. An alternative to CFP transceivers, ColorChip's DragonFly 40G is the smallest of its kind for ranges of up to 10km.

The DragonFly 40G QSFP is a 4x10G hot pluggable optical transceiver. ColorChip's unique SystemOnGlass(TM) (SOGTM) technology enables the integration of 4 transmitters, 4 receivers and an optical MUX/DeMUX into a small form factor package that delivers a 40 Gbps data link in a compact QSFP footprint. The optical connectivity is based on two SMF LC connectors, one for Tx and one for Rx. The Tx and Rx each consist of 4 10GB/s CWDM channels, whose wavelengths are in the 1300nm range.

As the demand for higher bandwidth increases, optical networks are spreading rapidly from the core to the enterprise, access, telecom and datacom networks (including storage and server networks). ColorChip's DragonFly enables higher port density while lowering power consumption.

Features:

o Supports 40 Gbps data rate links of up to 10 km

o QSFP footprint (Quad small form-factor, pluggable)

o Compliant with 40G Ethernet IEEE 802.3ba 40GBASE-LR4 draft standard

o Compliant with QDR/DDR Infiniband data rates

o Hot pluggable electrical interface

o Applications: Ethernet, Infiniband and Fiber Channel

Availability

ColorChip's DragonFly 40G QSFPs engineering samples are available as of July 2010 and general availability is expected by the end of the year. Engineering samples can be pre-ordered as of today through ColorChip's website.

ColorChip will be exhibiting at the OFC/NFOEC 2010 in San Diego from the 23rd to 25th March. Find them at Booth 2818.
