Multi-Functional Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR)
Toronto, Canada - GAO Comm (www.GAOComm.com) has rolled out its handheld optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) for use in CATV, ISP and telecommunication fiber networks. This portable OTDR displays the length, attenuation coefficient, connection point, fault point and loss distribution curves of the fiber, as well as, loss between two points, splice loss and return loss. It is commonly used for loss analysis and fault location in the manufacturing, installation and maintenance of fiber optic networks and equipment.
This handheld OTDR, model 3620, features a compact size and easy operation making it convenient for indoor or outdoor testing. It supports up to six sets of test result comparisons simultaneously while any single result is observable. The test results and event analysis lists can be printed out through the print-screen-function and can be uploaded to a computer via the communication interface. The OTDR offers two on screen markers that can be used to zoom in and out on curve details and automatically locates and creates a list of fault points. It also has a rapid response time which allows it to finish 50km fiber measurement in 30s with a high S/N ratio. Additionally, a large battery capacity enables continuous operation for more than 12 hours.
